While cooking in the micro and running the hot water heater both cut out. Breakers and fuses look fine and none of the breakers were tripped. This is on our 14' KZ Sportsman Classic. Any ideas? Thx. Ed

ed, Assuming you have a 30AMP service and your water heater was set on electric and using the microwave, that can pop a breaker. Happened to us on our last 5TH wheel with 30AMP service. Look in your panel 120 volt side and find the breaker labeled for the micro. They can trip and look like they aren't, switch it off then back on. You should hear a distinctive click when you turn it off. Happy Campin....

Two words: energy management! You're better off running the HWT on propane most or all of the time. Takes longer to heat the water with electric element only but you can run electric and propane together to get faster recovery or heat up faster when you first get to a CG. Some run on electric only though if they don't want to use up propane or want the campground to pay for the power. We never use the electric element. You should be aware that if you ever accidentally turn it on without water in the HWT (like when de-winterizing) the element will burn out immediately. There is a switch behind the HWT cover that will turn it off so it won't get accidentally turned on from inside. Low voltage is common in campgrounds, especially older ones. Running the HWT on electric could in some cases cause the voltage to drop too low (never let it get below 105). Running the AC unit during the summer is when you are more likely to have trouble running the HWT on electric and then trying to run an appliance. The converter can be drawing a few amps and if the fridge is on electric, it will draw a couple of amps. Having a permanently mounted voltmeter inside (LED is better) is always a good idea to keep tabs on voltage and even better is also having an EMS unit that will automatically shut you down if the supply power is outside certain parameters (including some that are safety related). It's a good idea to know the wattage/amps of all your electric appliances so you will know what you can run simultaneously. A 30 amp service is good for 3600 watts at 120 volts. ed, Glad to hear it was the breaker and it's OK now. An EMS is a must as myredracer states, due to all the electronics we use now. Our EMS has saved us a couple times last year on our cross country trek. Voltage can vary considerable from park to park, some older established parks can be iffy. The unit we have has a remote digital readout, well worth the expense. Happy Campin....
