Hi, i'm very pleased to say I've recently ordered a 2013 Durango 2857, Sandlewood Edition. I will be towing with my short bed 03 Ford F250 Diesel. Since for a number of years I pulled a 36' gooseneck race trailer (with stinger) I already have the B & W turnover ball under bed set up installed. I would like to use the B & W companion fifth wheel in conjunction with the turnover ball hitch. After extensive reading it seems that if I use the standard adjustment on the Companion to move it back 4" it might or might not give me sufficient turning capability depending on the design of the front cap on the Durango 1500. I know that cap is pretty aerodynamic so I think i will be ok but does anyone have any real experience with this specific setup? Thanks.

I have a similar setup. I am using the B&W 5the Wheel Companion to pull my 2004 KZ Sportsmen 2457 with a Silverado 2500HD short bed (6.5'). This trailer has an extended pin box. With the B&W Companion set all the way back I can make a 90 degree without hitting the cab. I seem to recall the some of the short bed Fords are 5.5'. It still should work but you probably won't be able to make a 90 degree. Ninety degree turns are rough on tires and axles anyway and even if you can't get to 90 degrees you can pull it but you have to remember you can't make that 90. My cousin pulled his 5th wheel for years with a short bed 2500HD and he could not made a 90, but he never had an incident. The Companion is a rock solid hitch. There is a lot of info on the B&W web side and if you have a question, they will get back to you quickly with an answer. There is a simple formula on their web that shows you how to calculate the turning radius and clearance by measuring the trailer pin box and cap and then compare with the location of the hitch. Take a look at the second question and answer here: www.turnoverball.com/faq/product/11062 The pin box on your trailer looks exactly like mine based on a photo I saw on the web. I think you will be OK but you might not be able to make the 90degree with a 5.5' bed or it will be too close for comfort. I have about 4-5" of clearance when I am in a 90 degree. Mine works and I'm happy with it. I recommend you check with B&W. Ken

It's a shame B&W hasn't come up with a set of industry standard rails that adatps to the ball system. You then use a Pullrite Superglide IRS hitch. www.pullrite.com/isr_2700.htmI have a '12 Durango D295CS that I'm towing with a '10 Ram 2500 megacab. The bed is 6' 5" so I was worried about 90 degree turns. I know that I'm that guy who will forget to watch the cab when backing and break the rear window. I went with a Pullrite Superglide 4400 with the SuperRails. It weighs a feakin' ton, but it's very well made and works seamlessly. I can make 90 degree turns with ease and not worry about any body flex causing the cab and trailer to meet.
