Last night we wanted to see if it was cool enough to sleep without the air conditioner and just open the windows in the bedroom. Both exit windows. The back side opened just like our last RV, but when I pushed the handle bar to open the window on the door side, the window fell out. The only thing keeping it from hitting the ground was that I was holding on to the handle. I couldn't reach through and grab the window because the screen was in the way, so dh ran out and was just able to get a grip on the window from the outside. Then I got a ladder and he climbed up and tried to put the window back in place. However, it had broken loose from the hinge. Looks like it was riveted onto the top hinge and all the rivets broke loose when I pushed the bottom open. For now, it is duct-taped at the hinge to keep it from falling again. Are these windows not to be used for ventilation? If not, why is there a screen? Is it common for the rivets to break off when they are opened. Can it be repaired? And how? Here's a picture of the good window hinge. Attachments:

there are 2 screws on the hinge portion. Completely unscrew one of them and slide the hinge halves apart. Now take the unattached hinge half and either re-rivet, sheet metal screw or nut and bolt the hinge half to the window frame. Slide the window assembly into the stationary hinge half and guide the window handle into the opening of the stationary portion of the window frame. Replace hinge set locking screw.
The rubber window seal tends to stick to the window making it difficult to open, putting stress on the moveable portion of the frame and hinge half. Use some dry silicone spray, baby powder or corn starch on the seal to keep window from sticking.
hope this helps
