Sorry this is a long explanation for my concern:
Has anyone had any problems with the 5 " Rand McNally RV GPS? We purchase one last year and found it was not reliable in at least 4 tests. We wanted to test it out locally before we traveled too far to see if it was working.
1. We set the clearance height for 12 ft., higher than needed, it took us under an 11 ft. bridge. We were OK because our trailer is under 11 ft. but we set it for 12 ft. Huge problem if we needed the 12 ft.
2. We asked it to avoid toll-roads, put us right on one for the route we selected.
3. On a very short local trip it selected a route which took longer than our normal route....I had it set for shortest time. We tested this one 2X.
4. On a day-trip to a town, about an hour away, it set a route to our home that was going to take an additional 40 minutes over our regular route. It was also way out of the way as you might expect. Shortest time set here also.
We reset everything with the computer thinking a glitch had occurred while setting it up....re-tested with the same results.
We called the company, explained the problem and they said we have done everything right and they didn't feel there was a problem with the unit. We returned it to Camping World, they were very nice and did not recommend we try another unit as they didn't feel it would make any difference. We got a bad feeling with that response and no explanation. We don't know of anyone with one of these units to cross check info. with. We loved may of the features it offered but couldn't trust it.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with any of the units?
We thought about the Magellan but hear it doesn't give Expected Time of Arrival....any info???
We are now thinking of trying the new 7720 Rand McNally model....any thoughts or experience with this unit?
Thanks!
