I have bunke beds in my camper they don't get much air flow. My question is can I get a 12v fan and wire it to my light that's in the bunk.

Why not get a battery operated fan to put in the bunk? That way you don't have any wiring safety issues.

Shouldn't be an issue tapping existing wires, might look at a cigarette lighter socket, then you could do fan, another light, phone charging port etc. I added both 12V & more 110 outlets in my last 5W as the existing just were not in the right place, like no 100 by the couch to keep the laptop charged.

I bought an outlet with USB and looks like a cigarette lighter I wired it up and it popped. Don't know if I bought the wrong one is there different ones for RVs.

I don't know for sure, but I would think a 12 volt outlet is a 12 volt outlet. It should work in either an auto or rv in my opinion.

I added a 12 volt "lighter" socket near my bed connected to the reading lamp. There is little danger working with 12 volt wiring and if the socket "pops" it was either defective or wired wrong.
I bought a O2 fan that holds 8 D cell batteries and modified the cords so that it can be run on the internal batteries, the lighter socket or 120 volt AC. Great for dry camping and outdoor use.

!2 volt is 12 volt no matter what, red positive, black negative, each goes to each, if you have what looks like two black wires to a peace of equipment then the one black wire with the strips on it is the positive lead. I always put a fuse in line of appropriate amperage so if I get the lead mixed up I only blow the fuse an do not destroy appliance or what it is hooked to However you can overload a 12 volt circuit buy trying to draw to much amperage as well thus also blowing a fuse if in line ... Trailers are wired with multiple colors. Most of the two conductor 12 volt wiring is white with a color stripe on the positive side. The colors can help trace wiring back to the fuse panel.

I guess I wired it wrong. I'll give it another try.

If you popped the fuse then it's a possibility. try switching the wires and see what happens

I found a great 12 volt fan at West Marine made by Caframo. The Sirocco 2 model 7010CABBX black or the 7010CAWBX white it has 3 speeds and a timer and the draw is low to conserve your battery when dry camping. Wall mount and 360 degree adjustable for the air flow. Been very happy with it.

That looks like the fan I'm looking for. So the wire with the strip is positive? I thought the solid color would have been.

You can get a cheap meter, and sometimes free with coupon, at Harbor Freight. Anyone with a camper should have a meter for a number of reasons.
