Hi, looking at a used unit, and there appears to be a trough running across the roof under the A/C. Could this be by design for drainage, or is it a broken truss?

No trough, don't buy it until the ceiling is opened and the cause is revealed. Might be serious structure damage or water damage.

I agree with lynnmor, Ask them to drop the ceiling, look around the air conditioner and walls, if they are stained water has gotten into the unit. if they will not drop the ceiling no matter how much you like the TT run the other way fast ....

How can that be done? I didn't think it was possible to just drop a ceiling... I can see no signs inside or outside of water damage anywhere...

JMHO If you have any doubts AT ALL about this camper pass on it. Another will come along. And Yes, the ceiling panels can be taken down.

Believe me it is possible if they want to do it, also ask them why the trough running across the roof under the A/C, was the A/C added and this is the wires to the A/C ...
Don't take the answer "Oh that's how it was made" because it not, if anything find some pictures of the same type of trailer an put them in you back pocket so to speak. If they try that answer on you then show them the pictures and say hows come these do not have that ?
Roof repairs scares the heck out of me, I had a couple of minor leaks on my old 5th wheel, I was lucky I saw them early on, only minor damage on one corner, but I replaced the complete roof to be safe to the tune of 6k on a 33ft 5th wheel ...
So if there is a trough running across the roof at some point there was a problem and it needed fixed/patched instead of the complete roof replaced ...
If you do buy this unit make sure that they put in writing There is no roof damage or water damage to the unit do to the trough running across the roof. A time limit of 1 year and that within that year any repairs do to damage from the trough running across the roof should be repaired by them at no cost to you !!!!

Thank you for the advice everyone, I'm going to pass on this unit.
I inspected under the a/c grille and saw some black mold in the OSB directly under the roof membrane. I do not think that there is any structural damage, but a manufacturing error that caused a misshapen roof. This caused the a/c to have a poor seal against the roof, resulting in minor leakage. Everything was still solid and structurally sound, but worrying about water pooling around the a/c gasket would have drove me nuts. If it was a screaming good deal I might have considered buying and finding a solution to the roof issue. But it wasn't.
Sad, because in all other ways it is a very nice TT, and would have met my needs very well. Oh well, the hunt continues!

As you stated a trough running across the roof under the A/C in not a manufacturing error, some has done something to that trailer otherwise the roof would not have a trough, it should be flat with no waves or ripples in it.... As jetzen stated there will be another come along, just be parent an keep looking Safe travels Chuck
