Even before we got our new custom-ordered 2014 KZ Spree 262RKS, I could tell from the manufacturer's floor plan on their website that there was a large, empty cavity between the bedroom wall and the end of the shower wall in the bathroom. It looked like it would be a great spot to increase storage. Sure enough, when we got it, on the bedroom side there was an access panel and inside, a large empty cavity. There is never enough storage space in a TT and this has helped a lot.
After walking through every KZ Spree on our dealer's lot, I found some stock cabinet door sizes that would work. I ordered 3 doors and also 3 pieces of 8' 1x2 in the same "smart cherry" finish in our TT. I spent a lot of time doing some careful measuring before opening up the wall so I wouldn't end up with a big mess to deal with.
This is the floor plan. The new cabinets are next to the bedroom entry door and in the space labelled linen.
Here's the bedroom wall marked out with tape. I used a sharp utility knife to cut the thin luan plywood.
This is the wall all opened up awaiting trim, doors and shelving.
Lots of factory sawdust to clean out.
I relocated the tank vent pipe out of the way as shown in this photo.
I made up a face frame with the 1x2 from KZ and used biscuit joinery.
Interior of cabinets. I used luan that I cut out for the opening to line the inside. The white bottom pieces are removable for access to piping. I may use this space some day to install our AGM battery.
The cabinets with doors installed. Looks like it came from the factory. The vanity is still accessible in the bathroom but is not as deep as it was originally but the rear of it was hard to reach anyway.
The cabinets are 15" deep. Two doors are 14 3/4" x 29" and one is 10 3/4" x 29".
