Got this last month and it was working fine at the campsite. Left for a 3-day side trip and when we returned the EMS was reading E2: open ground. So our trailer was running off battery rather than the plugged in electrical connection. We disconnected the EMS and restarted it over the directions. Still E2. So we disconnected the EMS and plugged into the box at the site. Power on fine, but still a little nervous about not having the EMS plugged in. So we changed to another site a ways away from the first one and guess what? Got the E2 open ground reading again. So we're baffled. The folks at the campground have no idea what might be causing the open ground issue. Any ideas?

You bought the EMS, now you have to learn to trust it.
If you have an independent tester, you can check the pole on the assumption that your EMS is faulty. However, considering progressive's reputation... I would trust the EMS and figure that the campground folks may be unaware that their wiring is faulty.

I would trust the EMS. Did the campground staff use a meter to check for an open ground?. If not then I would trust the EMS. If it checked OK then I would call Progressive Ind. They are very responsive and I watched a recent video where it was mentioned that under warranty, parts could be sent to you and they would walk you through installation over the phone.

Bad, bad idea to have disconnected the EMS. If you have an open ground showing, you should move to another site. The EMS is there to protect you from physical harm or property damage and you should trust it. You MUST have your RV properly grounded at all times for personal safety reasons.
Campground staff are not qualified/licensed electricians. Last year our PI EMS showed an open ground and low voltage. They sent over their electrician/groundskeeper/handyman who declared it perfectly fine. I'm an EE and just couldn't get through to the guy what the problem was. Tried another site nearby and found the same issue. Then moved to a section with 50 amp pedestals and it was fine after that. We have the PI 30 amp EMS and it's hard-wired next to the panel.
If you ever find that again, find another site. Some people use a receptacle tester (available all over the place) along with a 30 to 15 amp adapter before plugging into a 30 amp pedestal. This way you won't have to back into a site only to find the pedestal is no good. IF a campground looks relatively new, it's probably okay.

We called Progressive Industries this morning and after some testing it was determined we have a faulty unit. PI is shipping is a new replacement, including a pre-paid return shipping label. Yay! And because of the meter readings at the power stanchion all is good to plug in. Thanks for the good advice here!

Sounds good. Do you have a hardwire, or pedalstol. Unit? Where did you mount your ems 30 unit? I too have a spree escape and was wondering where to hardwire, thinking under the fridge where the camper cord comes in, just wondering know to access that area

So we went with the portable pedestal style.
