About to pull the trigger on a Silverado 3500 High Country with Duramax package. Truck has the fifth wheel prep package in the bed of the truck. Anyone got a preference to make and model of fifth wheel hitches? Prob don't need a slider with the standard box. Trailer grosses just under 15,000 lbs Thanks

I have the B & W companion turn over ball slider model. There is some slight "klunking" when comming to and taking off from a stop which is kinda annoying. B&W advised that was normal due to the slider latch. I did use a friends non slider B&W and really liked it.

Wondering if I will need a slider

kmart4321,
To be on the safe side if it were me I would choose the slider. One mistake can be very costly. I purchased a new hitch when I changed tow vehicles,(8' bed) I chose the Curt Q-16 with OEM leg system for a Ram 3500 SRW. I chose the Curt because at the time no other manufacturer mentioned anything about meeting the proposed SAE reg. J2638. The Q-16 hitch head is rated for a 4,000 lb. vertical load and a 16,000 lb. trailer. More than meets my needs. I've had the hitch now over a year and just returned from an east coast trip, 6,670 total miles pulling our Durango 315RKD. No problems what so ever, very pleased with it. All I can say is do your homework, there are numerous ones to choose from. Find one that fulfills your needs. Happy Camping.

New Hitch 005.JPG Very clean install. That's what attracted me to the puck system. Long weekend up here in Canada this weekend but I'll be looking more into B&W and Curt next week and whether sliders are available in the GMC OEM puck system

Yes, I like the puck system as well. Very happy at how clean it is, lots of room to get around it. Here is Curt Manufacturing's web site: www.curtmfg.com, click on 5TH wheel towing and search away. Happy hunting. I purchased mine from a local accessory shop here in town, was cheaper. I guess Curt's direct prices are a bit higher so they don't cut out their dealers. Oh, forgot to mention that it comes apart in two pieces for removal, that way one person can handle it if need be and the Q-16 head has a limited life time warranty. Have read their warranty statement and still trying to figure it out. Installation by the way is easy, took the wife and I about forty five minutes to assemble/install. All the best on what ever you choose. Happy Camping....

I have the 6'6" bed. Thought it was better to have the slider then not and need it. I do use the slider when backing into my narrow driveway. For me it's easier to maneuver with the hitch slid back.

Or get the Super Glide. It moves for you. That's what is in my short bed '04 Duramax pulling my Durango 325. I guarantee you that if you turn too sharp without a slider, you WILL hit the truck ... it won't be pretty. With my Superglide hitch when I'm at 90 degrees the camper is still about a foot from the truck cab. I don't have the puck system, however. Not that familiar with it.

Found a good deal on a Curt Q24. Way more hitch that I need but gives a nice safety margin. 45 mins to put it together and adjust for a snug fit. Clean, and easy to remove.

I looked at an Ultimate hitch but restricts you. Truck is married to trailer, can't haul another 5th wheel without moving adapter. Went with a Curt Q24 myself. Very happy. Cheers Btw, all the hitch shops I talked to discouraged me from a slider. All said it's a waste of money on a 6' 6" box. I took my trailer to 90 degrees with no problem. Any further than that I shouldn't be trying to park there anyway

I have had a Curt Q16 now for little over 6 years with now problems pulling a 33ft 5er weighting right around 10K loaded.
We now have traded in that trailer an have a G384RLT with GVWR of 14,995 which we do not believe we will ever get up to, But hauling it home empty weight of 12,250 per the MFG I had no problems with chucking. I have a 8ft box and the Curt Q16 is attached to rails cross ways in the bed, I have to say it is very easy to uninstall and reinstall when the full bed is needed to haul stuff...
