I would like to install a battery disconnect switch to the house batteries on my spree escape. I notice that there are basically two types. One installs into the battery box and comes with a plastic key (something that I will probably lose) and the other is mounted external to the battery box. I as wondering if the externally mounted disconnect switch is weather resistant? Do the exposed connections pose a problem? I believe the brand name is sea dog.

I had two of the cheap red key type go bad in one summer. Get a Blue Sea brand switch. Yes, they cost more but are made for marine use.

Thanks Lynn or. I will look into it. Do you protect the exposed connections?

I mounted it vertically, so the cables enter from the bottom. I didn't use any kind of sealant on the connections, but you might want to apply some kind of corrosion prevention. The connector you see beside the switch is for my Battery Tender that I connect about three days per month. When I am not using the trailer, I disconnect it from power and turn off the battery switch. There is always some draw if the battery is turned on. I prefer to use the Battery Tender so that the onboard converter is not exposed to power line issues and unnecessary wear.

Thanks Lynn or. I will look into it. Do you protect the exposed connections? They make a product called "liquid electrical tape". It's available at Lowe's, Home depot, Harbor Freight, ETC. It paints on and is a little messy to work with until you get used to it but it can seal anything.
