Hey There, Soooo, I bought another Nissan Frontier. I really thought a 4 wheel drive would pull the KZ Spree Escape E204S trailer better than a 2 wheel drive. Not so I guess. I noticed in the manual that a 2 wheel drive Nissan Frontier can pull 200 more lbs than a 4 wheel drive. How crazy, I don't get it. I can't believe I lost towing capacity. So confusing this stuff. Does anyone know about this?
Thanks.
Gina

the 200 is about the weight the 4WD system added. Any added weight counts to total load and reduces towing

Hi Gina,
A 4WD has lower towing capacity than a 2WD simply because of weight. The 4WD components weigh a lot more than 2WD. The structure of the vehicle is generally the same, so it drops the towing capacity.
A 4WD can get you out of sticky spots at some campgrounds, where as 2WD could leave you stranded.
It's really personal preference. Is the Nissan that close to the towing limit of your camper? That would concern me a little bit more than 200 lbs.

What is total weight of TT loaded and ready for the road? Nissan engine and wheel base may not be up to the task. Search Forums for tips on weighing TT,TV together.Good luck.

Keep in mind towing capacities are done using a flat trailer with sheets of steel to get the weight....towing a TT or FW the real capacity is about 12% lower because of the wind resistance. Also being able to PULL the weight does NOT mean proper STOPPING ability. The bigger the truck the better.

Ohhhh, I see. Thanks so much! I got it.
No, the tow limit is not close but I wasn't happy. But now I understand why it went down. Makes sense. Thanks again very, very much! Gina
