hello all, last weekend we took our Durango 295cs out for its second trip of the season. everything was going great until the second night when out heater decided to stop working . I checked the propane which was fine and tried to start it again no go . it was out last night so I decided to let it go until we were back home. after we were home I started digging into the heater . I checked the sail switch the hi temp switch and the time delay relay all was fine. then I decided to check the gas coming in which was only 7 inches wc . I said to myself cool that's got to be it . so I changed out the propane regulator and tested the gas again . now I have 12 inches wc . then tried the heater and the way it went . it fired right up without any problem. so after about 3 or 4 minutes I,m feeling pretty good about it then it started a new problem . the burner now cycles on and off with the blower still running . it seems now that its getting too hot and tripping the hi limit switch. I know in the kz manual it says you should only have 11 inches wc. I didn,t think and inch would matter and was wondering if that could be cause . any help anyone could give would great . yes I did check the duck work and it is clear .

Sounds like you have a pretty good working knowledge of the heater. Recommend reading my post below about unusual heater problem. While my heater is a SF42, they are pretty similar. You may be running too hot as you suggest, but the ducting may also be an issue. The burner will cycle on and off while the blower is still running, but it's not a frequent cycling, just as needed by the unit. The good news for you is that you are still under warranty. Let the dealer work on it, and MAKE SURE ... they get it fixed before the warranty runs out. Read my full post and you'll understand why!

hello joe, yes I did read your post and i couldn,t find any problems with the duck work. my Durango is a 2011 so now it is out of warranty. funny how these things wait until that runs out to have problems. but anyway I,m thinking of pulling the unit out and making sure there isn,t anything blocking the heat exchanger . it seems to have a lot of flow going in the intake and out the exhaust outside . all the duck work inside looks good and clear . but first I,m going to check the hi limit switch just to make sure its working like it should. thanks for the reply

Sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on a fix. Just in case you can't ever get it fixed, I got my new furnace through Amazon for $450. I didn't feel up to trying to swap them out, so had my dealer do it for $180. Since you're probably up to that, you would save that cost.
BTW, I'm still waiting for KZ or Suburban to give me some relief over what was most obviously a defective unit.
Good luck!

hello joe, thanks for the tip . how is the new one working out ? could you do me a favor and stick a thermometer in the closest heater vent and tell me how hot it is ? i,m starting to think that i may have a bad regulator on the furnace . i have no other idea what it could be . the duct work looks free and clear the blower blows as good as it ever did . the heat exchanger inside looks still like new as well as the burner . you know it could of been doing this since we bought it and just never notice until now .we very seldom used it. when we did use it we just never paid any attention to how long it took for the coach to warm up . as far as the clicking goes when it restarted you would have to get down on your knees in front of the air intake panel and listen good because one click is all you get . i,m not to sure about these Durango they seem to have a lot of problems . my last 5ver was a artic fox which we used for 11 years and the only thing i had to fix on that was a compassitor on the air conditioner . i know i spelled it wrong . you know come to think of it i had three 5vers, two travel trailers , and two tent campers and never had the regulator on the propane tanks go bad . never had furnace problems either . oh well , i guess as time wears on the more things cost the cheaper they are made . maybe i should just go down the road you did and let this go . i would just like to know whats causing this problem . thanks for listen and for your input . tim

The new heater hasn't faulted and it's probably run for at least 100 cycles, if not more. It's been pretty cool here so checking it has been pretty easy.
I don't have a thermometer, but I do have one of those remote sensors like you would put outside to know the temp, I placed it on the register closest to the heater and through two cycles the highest it read was 126. I would imagine it's quite a bit higher than what that showed.
If you hear the burner ignite after only one click, it's doing what it should. My old heater operated totally random and as reported, many times used all 3 "clicks" and sometimes faulted even then.
I have mixed feelings about the Durango, I love the camper and the heater has been my only complaint. I blame Suburban for the heater, but I blame KZ (specifically my dealer) for not ever either fixing it or replacing it.
I also think mine had the same problem from day one, but never camped in really cold weather, so lost most of a year of warranty work.
Good luck!

thanks so much for all the info joe . we love ours too its just I,m getting a little tired of finding stuff wrong on it . it gets old after awhile . if you been following my post you would understand what I,m talking about . I know you expect to found little things go wrong but mine seems to have something go wrong on it just about every year. first the roof had to be replace then the floor in the side out on the door side then the fresh water tank then the water heater stopped working on gas then theres the little things such as cabinet doors not shutting right the sofa air mattress just to name a few . thank god this was covered under warranty but some of it I just fixed myself . I thought kz stands behind there products . or they stand behind them for two years and that's it... they should cover your furnace because its been going on befor the warranty was up. I did go out and rechecked mine and couldn,t find anything else that would make this furnace over heat . ducts are free and clear, gas ....still at a little over 11 wc voltage 12.2 intake exceeds min. and so does the heat ducts . exhaust and burner intake clean and clear . it bugs me to no end not being able to find the problem. I even went down to the dealership and they told me because the outside temp. being so warm that these heaters will over heat . it needs to be below 50 . so I got up early a few days ago and sure enough it overheated again . what a line of crap that was. so for now I,m just going to wait for this one to crap out and buy a new one . I don,t think I would ever buy one of these again I had enough . good luck with yours . I hope kz stands up and takes care of you. its the right thing to do . happy camping tim & joan Newark ny

I'm having the same exact issue with the cycling. I replaced the board, sail switch, limit switch and thermostat. The only thing left that could be replaced is the blower which is fine and the thermocoupler. Their is no obstructions in the duct work so I'm at a complete loss. I even had a professional come in and he was at a loss. I know this is a common problem because of all my research but I have not seen a solution or fix. ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

I found they were faster at getting things done than KZ was as they have dealers/repairman all over when KZ might have one or two dealers and the first thing the ask is did yiu buy from us? No sorry we won't work on your problem.
