Hello, and your thoughts.
Unit: 2022 KZ 251RL 5th Wheel. Purchased: July 2023 Dealer: Kings Campers, WI.
Parameters: 1st outing guarantee to fix/repair anything not working or wrong with unit.
July 2023: Dropped off unit after our first outing with list of things needing repair. Backflow of water from city water inlet, to outbound water holding tank input. Scored electrical outlet on Ped side (did work but didn't wish to have scored cable not knowing if there was additional internal problems) Brakes making grinding sound upon brake application. ( rivets on drum sound i.e., warning sound of worn brakes)
0 contact for 2 months from dealer to me. (Sept) 1 contact me/dealer ... "wrong parts were sent" 0 contact for 1 month from dealer to me. (Oct) 1 contact me/dealer ... "don't have repair answer" 0 contact for 1 month from dealer to me. (Nov.) 1 contact me/dealer " you won't believe this, they sent the wrong parts again" 0 contact dealer to me (Dec.) 1 contact from Extended Warranty Company asking for particulars on braking complaint timeline. King's Camper is attempting to claim brake repair costs on my extended warranty account, and they wish to verify date of incident(s) for paying warranty claim. I informed extended warranty company that this repair needed to be dealers responsibility as it was sold this way. Dealer claimed at delivery time that the grinding noise was from sitting idle on their lot for xyz time and the brakes were somewhat rusted and would clear up.
Dealer now has our unit for 5 months and still no (0) contact with us as to it's repair status. E-Trailer has had any/all parts available since July '23 in stock.
Thoughts?
p.s., I know this is a 2 party problem, and we will resolve this at some point, yet I'm looking for input as to the KZ breaking system in general - good/bad/or ? Does KZ have brake system problems in general? Or is this a one standalone issue with this unit.
Thanks in advance.

Were the brakes burnished before you picked the camper up. Probably not. Manufacturer should have supplied burnishing procedure to seat the brake magnets and pads. There's YouTube videos and website info of how-to, also.
Edit: And as pointed out below, even unseated brakes should not grind.

There's YouTube videos and website info of how-to, also. Grinding noise is not good, it needs checked to insure nothing come apart, the RV has self adjusting brakes. Electric Scored? Scorched; absolutely needs checked. Burnishing brakes is easyly done setting the brake controller per the controllers instructions, several stops from 25-30 as you adjust.

Going on 5 months. I'm surprised you have been so patient with the dealer. I would have been at the owner/managers desk and not happy and demanding satisfactory repairs or my full purchase price back and they can keep the camper. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
With that said, brakes, axles, etc. are not warrantied by the manufacture of the trailer, they are warrantied by the manufacturer of the axles. You many want to go to Lippert or whoever the axle manufacture is and let them know what's going on. If it's an electrical issue, it's usually a trailer manufacture issue they may pass off as an issue with a component manufacturer. I would be asking lots of questions about that one.
Sorry about your problems and good luck.

Brake parts are the same across all trailer brands and parts can be shipped to you as soon as overnight. You need to learn how to service the brakes and then you will see how simple they are to repair or replace. eTrailer has much information.

Burnishing the brakes is never done unless you specifically ask. Then you would probably have to pay the labor. I doubt the dealer even has the equipment to turn the drums and grind the shoes. Easy to seat them by applying the brakes multiple times. As far as the noise, these are drum brakes and with all the springs and clips holding the shoes, some noise is normal. Probably no rivets on the pads. Most are now bonded. The dealer is also correct about rust on the drums.
Water filling the fresh water tank my be nothing more than the valve not fully turned to the correct position.

The burnishing process is to be done with freshly installed brake shoes, since nearly all trailers are towed many miles to the dealer, the window of opportunity has passed.

The burnishing process is to be done with freshly installed brake shoes, since nearly all trailers are towed many miles to the dealer, the window of opportunity has passed. Not only the shoes, but the drums should also be trued. Not many places have the equipment to do this anymore. Years and years ago, all dealers and service stations had the machines. I worked at a couple and all brake jobs had it done, but that was before disc brakes. Now with bonded brakes, tolerances are much better.
Replacing brake shoes is becoming a thing of the past. You can buy the entire brake assembly for about the same price as the shoes. Plus, you get all new hardware and magnets.

I had my 241rlk in the shop for 6 weeks with a leaking front window. Literally called Joelle at KZ and had to get her involved. After the window was fixed, I did all the other repairs my self. (Black mold) KZ covered the materials but not my labor. Now I am satisfied with the repairs. If you have the mechanical abilities. GO GET YOUR TRAILER! Pull the wheel and drum and see what the problem is. Take pictures! I will garentee the shop has not touched it since you drove it on the lot. They make zero on warranty repairs compared to other repairs. And it will sit on the lot at no sweat from them. Those the dealer?

Sorry to hear you have had problems with Kings. We have bought multiple campers from them and have never had a problem like that, but I do most maintenance myself.

We bought our unit from Kings, the service dept seemed to jump right on things. Surprised you’re having problems. Talk to Jim Moore. My brakes also had a squeal, found an extra backing plate nut floating around, catching every once in a while. Dexter 7000lb axle

After a quick email to the org., and a definitive pickup date, they apparently completed the repairs that were due and other requested repairs on the date I said I was picking up our unit. The unit is home, and I'll wait until the upcoming season to see if all has been completed correctly. We were greeted with a 0.00 repair bill, but opted to pay for our requested ad-on's and they accommodated our request. Communication and employee turnover were presented as the main reason for our ongoing situation. We (somehow) understood that situation as we've owned our company for over 40 years, and see what the jab/poke era has done to the workforce. I think we'll still consider using them as a resource, but perhaps not #1.
Straight highways and shading pines. God Bless, and we'll see ya at the KZ rally if we get a spot. jl
