Well here it is colder than you know what and I have another water leak. Get out this AM and there's an icicle hanging from the bottom of he RV just under the water control panel. Brave the cold and open up the wall to get to the back of the panel. Some engineer at KZ thinks it's OK to put a 1/2" PEX clamp on a braided hose. The hardest part was getting the d*mn PEX clamp off with out breaking the plastic fitting. I held the clamp with a pliers and used a side cutter to bend the tab back and forth until the metal fatigued, I replaced the PEX clamp with a standard hose clamp.
NOTE to engineers: PEX is NOT the same size a braided hose, hose clamps are made for hose, PEX clamps are not. Please design a tool to remove the PEX clamps if you continue to use the wrong hardware on the water fittings and note in the owners manual how to replace the wrong clamps.

They also clamp braided hose onto PEX barbed fittings, they have been doing this for years. Hose barbs and PEX barbs are a different size and shape. I don't think you can send a note to the engineers, there are none.

Well, if there are "engineers" they need to turn in their stamp, as none of us are engineers and we all know better than to use some of these methods.

Just a few leaks, why not PEX the entire way, three days and everyday another fitting is leaking. I see a complete re doing of all this and elimination of all the braided lines I can get to, some are running out of site I believe to the kitchen sink.

I can see that the flexible hose would be easier to run and require less fittings, but the larger issue is the use of improper barbed fittings and the hose hanging free with no support. If you change to PEX, be sure that you provide some support and have the proper PEX tools. The water pump should have hose that is much longer than necessary to reduce noise.

I'm not home and won't be for a few months. Pulled PEX I had been carrying because I hadn't used it, now I need t buy more. I have clamps and the tool but no tubing, tomorrow it's off to the big box for PEX tubing. I'll do this like it should have been done in the first place.

Update, KZ used plastic fittings so before I break one removing the clamps I bought a selection of brass fittings just in case along with red, blue, & white PEX. Home depot had them in 5ft sticks and I'll continue to carry spare PEX from now on along with the assorted brass fittings. You might want to carry a small selection while traveling for just in case.
