Hello everyone,
My wife and I are looking to buy a fifth wheel to semi-retire with. We’ve been researching, watching videos, going to dealers, and shows. Once we finished our research, complete with a spreadsheet of a few dozen makes and models, it turns out that the Durango 291BHT is a perfect fit for us. We met with a local dealer in our state to talk about the ordering process and such. They were very helpful, and we were able to go through the option items so they could create a quote for us.
How long should that take? We’ve been waiting over a week and I’m wondering if this dealer is too busy and maybe we should reach out to another dealer to get the order process going. We also want the best deal we can get…so we’re not sure how to proceed.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
-Greg

While putting a price quote together is not all that big of a deal, (in their defense, they may be waiting on their rep to get them current pricing) however "finding" a unit could be the issue and that could be what the dealer is trying to do, as dealers like to make the sale "right now". Or they are just being lazy and don't want to make the effort as they wont actually make the sale "right now". I would talk to the other dealer to see how responsive they are. Remember, if a dealer drags their feet before the sale, how responsive do you think they will be after the sale?

Kings Campers in Wausau has one of those in stock right now. They are a great place to buy a rv plus their prices are fair. Service is exceptional.

We’re looking to order, because we don’t need it immediately…but we would still like to get “in line” asap. I’ll plan on giving the dealer a call this Friday and see what they have to say. If they are too busy, I’ll consider options. Thanks! -Greg

I guess I should also mention we’re in southern New England, but would consider traveling if the deal is right. ;-)

It's probably further than you would want to travel, but RV Outfitters in Nacogdoches, Texas has 4 or 5 of those on order. We bought our 333 from them in September, 2020 and even though it was a 600 mile trip one way, it was well worth it. We saved $$$$ plus they're good people to deal with. They would probably have one delivered to you.

I reached out to a dealer to get a competitive price (update: after an unanswered email I called to get the quote done)…and just got a “What can I do to get you into this unit?” guy. Ugh! …and didn’t get another quote.

Maybe my next question is now to easily go about getting a quote. Granted I’ve only had one run in with a high-pressure guy, but still…there must be an easy way. I really could use to save a few $$$.

When I was shopping several years ago, I was planning on sending out emails or faxes to every dealer I could find. I was able to get an option list for the model I had as my #1 choice, so it would have been easy to create a template and just send it to every dealer. Biggest issue was the "shop local" b.s. that all the mfrs push, but that's real hard to do when there's exactly ONE KZ dealer in the state and the next closest being about 400 miles away. The "dealer locater" only gave me the one dealer and I'd have to spend hours combing all the dealers in the locator, or at least the ones that were still in business or carrying the 1500 line, and getting their contact info. Never got to that point as I was never able to even find the exact model I was interested in anywhere closer than 700 miles from me. Personally, I had zero issues with finding what I wanted and driving well across the country, if the numbers worked out. Lyle

After being "shown the door" at the lone KZ dealer here in Reno my wife ended up making the deal over the phone with a dealer in Salt Lake City UT. In short, traveling to get the coach you want is becoming much more common nowadays. As far as getting a quote I would try with a salesperson, if no answer then go to the general manager or owner and tell him you were ignored and want a price quote. These dealers have gotten lazy, but the gravy days are going to end, the smart ones are aware of it. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks everyone. We ended up putting in an order with the local guy…I think I got a decent deal for the current situation. Later that day I get a call back with the news that now I’m looking at a 2023 model…and a wait until the fall. Ugh…. 😣 We are going to have to possibly arrange for a rent because we’re selling our house…fun times. 😜 At least the deal is in progress, and I have the number that will work for us. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be better to get a lower price, but we configured the unit with a ton of options…so it will be good to have them factory installed instead of aftermarket. Does anyone know when the new model changes are announced and where?

Good that are getting what you want, bad that you have to wait and do the rental thing. But as you said, with today's circumstances, not a lot of choice.
From what I remember from visiting the factory during the rally in early August and getting to see what's pending (we are asked to remain quiet) I think the dealers (& eventually the public) get the news in late August / early September.
