It's so warm here in central Colorado that we're de-winterizing the Spree Escape 196 this weekend and going to Cheyenne Mountain State Park. We've driven around it but never camped there so it should be fun. It'll be the newest campground we've ever stayed in. Full hookups and such. Wide and flat sites. Can't believe it's first weekend in March and warm enough to go camping. Don't know if we'll carry the HF radio or not. The forecast calls for high winds that I'm pretty sure would break my portable antenna. Am going to take it all anyway but I'm hoping the winds slack off enough that I can talk to eastern Europe early Sunday morning when the grey line passes over. Would be cool to talk from there to Russia! Hoping to also do some hiking with the family. Looks like lots of neat trails around there - 20 miles or so. Will update this thread with pics and the like plus how it all went. Might not happen until Monday - a cold front is coming in Sunday afternoon so I'll be in a push to get 'er re-winterized before it drops below freezing again. Have a great weekend everyone! Carl

We camped there a couple of years ago in July on our way back from Yellowstone. Very level sites. Really clean. Would go there again.

Hi guys - It sure was CLEAN! The pad was level and nearly twice as wide as the trailer so no need to put out the 9x12 ground mat. AC pedestal was in good shape. Water and sewer dump just where they were supposed to be. Views were great if you like seeing city lights. Was neat seeing the moon rise over the city. We had a full moon so couldn't see the Milky Way. Not sure if it'd be possible being so close to the city but we could at least see a lot of stars. Speaking of close to a city - it's within 10 minutes of anything you'd want - city wise. About 15 minutes away from a few RV dealers. Kids' playground equipment was in good shape. Given all the parking spaces and trails it looked like it could be busy in summer but it was perfect for us. Walked a few trails. There weren't steep and had great views. Saw lots of rabbits and hawks. It was nearly 20 degrees there than here at home so the temperatures were lovely. We happened to be there during a "windy day" - per the ranger. It was so windy that even our 9 year old woke up at 5am because the trailer (Spree 196) was shaking so much. Anything not tied down would have blown away. Could still hear some city sounds - both day and night. Loud cars, motorcycles, sirens and the like. There was a bit of noise from the nearby Army base - artillery training and helicopters. Mentally it was odd sleeping so close to Cheyenne Mountain AFS - the old "NORAD". Have to get back to work now - will update later today or tomorrow with pics. It sure was pretty there. Really nice expansive views across the plains. Best regards, Carl - K0VWA (Good to see another ham, Chuck! Hope to hear you on the air sometime. I'm usually listening on 20M during the day whenever I'm not in a meeting for work.)
