At home it worked like a dream. I got to the campground this past weekend and it was there was a lot of static. Not sure if the strong wifi system at the campground had anything to do with it. Got back home and it was perfectly clear again. Will check it out again when we go out over Memorial Day weekend to a different campground. Nervous about the hole I made. I'm thinking about tearing the putty out and putting in a fiberglass patch around the cable. Holes are no big deal. I am a ham radio guy and drill holes in all of my RVs. A nice dab of silicone will take care of it. John KE4D Brackettville, TX

I have a small 12v battery from a garage door opener, I'm going to try use that for keeping an eye on the hitch when connecting or if needed elsewhere... Then I'll transfer the camera to the back of the 5r for normal use.

Holes in RV an cars to me as well is no problem but DW really frowns on such when I get out the drill

Not sure why this thread popped back up! I haven't had any issues with the hole to date, but do check it once every couple trips.

It goes in and out if I just leave the monitor on the dashboard. If it does get static-y, I will pick up the monitor and that helps most of the time. It's a feature that I would definitely want on my next RV.
Side note, my in-laws just picked up a new Grand Design 5er. After seeing it, my wife has been telling me that she wouldn't be mad if I went and got one.

But getting a new trailer you then would have to start all over making it your own, I agree the Grand Design I saw the other day at our local Ford/RV dealer made one think real hard
I didn't tell the DW about me looking LOL

I had the dealer install a back up camera in our 2020 Connect C261RB when we got it last year. The mount was already in place on the trailer just below the center running light up on the back. A 12VDC connectors was in place and already wired into the the lights. We have a suction mount for the receiver that works great on a spot on the dash of our 1500 Ram. There is a strength meter display (4 bars) on the receiver and I've never seen it at anything but 4 bars.
I have it on whenever towing. It works great to see what's behind you and how close the cars are coming up beside you. It's my new rear view mirror when I'm towing. The only issue is sunlight vs. shade at times. I've never seen any issues in campgrounds. The campground we were in this weekend had amazing strong and high bandwidth wifi and there was NO static or interference.
From the talk of static issues in 2015 vs. no image issues on my 2020 model, I'm thinking the upgraded tech by the camera manufactures over the last 4-5 years may have taken care of the connection issues. Antennas might help the issues with the older cameras, but I suspect an upgrade to a new unit might be the best fix.
