Just wondering if this is standard. My outside light is on the wrong side of door. When door is opened, you can not see the steps coming into or going out of camper. Am putting rope lights around steps, but you have to go outside to plug them in. Love everything else about camper. Is this just an oversight? Does any else have this on theirs?

On my Durango, it's directly above the door. I can see where this could be an issue.
I've never played with this on my KZ, but on my old Jayco, the ground fault switch in the bathroom was connected to the outside plugs. If I forgot to unplug the outside lights (and didn't want to go back out), I could hit the ground fault in the bathroom and kill power to the outside plug.
If KZ is wired the same way, you could use the ground fault plug to turn on your rope lights when it gets dark out rather than having to plug them in. They would also come on when you needed the bathroom plug for anything like a hair dryer, etc. I wouldn't want to use this solution long term.
You could also spend a little money to get one of those remote control boxes to plug into. Then you have the remote to turn the rope lights on and off. I've seen them at camping world, but you could probably also find them with Christmas lighting sets, just make sure it's for outdoor use. ***Note, it's also fun to tell the little kids in the group that you can turn on and off your lights by snapping your fingers, then let them try snapping their fingers to do the same thing. It's magic!
