I own a 2009 MXT 266, which I purchased new from a deal in Clearwater Florida. We use the trailer about 5 or 6 times per year, and when it is not in use, it is kept covered. We have been very lucky and encountered almost no bad weather for years. However, the last 18 months we have had rainy weather on every trip, sometimes for several days.
On our last trip in March I noticed the front wall next to the bed was rippling, obviously a moisture issue. As I started looking, I found the emblem on the front of the trailer was not sealed (not visible from the ground) and I guessed the emblem was holding water and entering the interior through a wiring hole for the emblem light.
I took the trailer to the dealer and they agreed that was probably the problem, but would not know until the interior wall was removed. Once the wall was taken off, it was clear that the wire hole (half dollar size) had never been sealed at the factory, also the emblem, affixed with double stick tape, was secure. But it had never been sealed at the time of manufactured (factory issue!). I had the dealer drill a small hole in the bottom of the emblem, and several gallons of water drained out, that's a problem.
The dealer sealer the entire emblem, as well as the wire hole, replaced all the insulation and installed a new interior wall. ($1,100+) The dealer did a perfect job and the interior wall looks better than new (hats off to Lonnie, service manager).
I contacted KZ (Joe Miller) from the start and provided photos of the problem and additional photos when the wall was off to show him that this was a manufacture issue from day one. The only reason it had not surfaced sooner, was because the unit is kept under cover. I never had any further contact from Miller.
When the dealer called and said the work was complete, they said they had heard nothing from KZ or Miller reference this issue. I called Miller, he told me that there was nothing they could do for me. NOTE: Now the time I talked to him was only hours after an employee meeting at KZ where they were told the company was being sold to Thor Industries. Maybe this had something to do with the "we don't care" attitude.
I know my unit is out of warranty and did not expect them to cover the whole cost (though it would have been nice), but after all, if it was sealed right when built, it would never have happened. Paying for at least the parts would have been a satisfactory solution. Oh well!
Posting this because if you own this type unit, check the seal on yours. And if buying used, check it thoroughly.
Note: The emblem was replaced with a decal on 2010 models.. Uuummmm! I wonder why?
Love the dealer, very disappointed in KZ-RV
