When traveling does it appear that the camp grounds are full or are they being affected by the high gas prices and not that full? Just curious can travel just don't want to fight the crowds.

In general around us all the popular campgrounds are booked solid. Others have sites that are too small or are non serviced sites. We go to one campground every year at the end of July. You can only book that 5 months in advance and if you don’t book, you are not getting a site. I did notice when I booked this one, more of the sites were taken for a longer period. I have looked for another site for the 10 days we’re there and there’s none. Being up north this is all compounded due to we only have 5 months to camp with 2 prime months if you have kids. Since 2020 camping and RV’ing has become more popular making booking worse. Online booking sites have crashed due to being overloaded.

Yeah that's a good thing and bad. Good that prices aren't stopping folks from traveling keeping the economy going. But means more planning and reserving of travel.

One other thing is I have resorted to the fact that electrical sites are few and far between to get. I bought two smaller generators and a parallel kit so I can run the AC when needed. I bought smaller ones due to the weight of the larger ones capable of starting up a 15k btu AC. I’m not getting any younger. I’m an early riser so my coffee is made old school with a percolator on the gas stove. You can’t beat the peacefulness of a campground at 6 in the morning and enjoying a coffee.

Oh I'm with you. The smell and the sound of the percolator I grew up with. You can sit and hear far off sounds of nature and wild life. Not much better than that.😌

What we have seen in our travels in the past years is that there seem to be more full timers in camp grounds now days ... Allot of the KOA's we stated at in the past the full timers had the nice cement pads an the traveler's had the gravel sites ... I always try to book a month or two in the future an prefer pull-thought's with power, cable etc an have not had to much problems ... That saying we have not moved out of the driveway in two years so thongs may have changed in many ways, I see allot of camper on the road now days ... If we do any short time camping close to home(500 miles or closer) we camp during the week Monday thought Friday morning an skip the weekend ... We also camp ay KOA's or Good Sam camp grounds with a rating of 7.5 or better an have for the most part had good luck an noce sites ... Safe Travels Chuck

In our travels this summer we have seen most parks about 2/3 full. We have had all of our sites pre booked ahead. Only one park was sold out the whole week we were there. But they did keep 3 sites open a nite. We have seen lots of RV's on the road, all styles. Most people we have talked to said fuel prices impacted their plans, they still just shortened up trips. Kirt

Campgrounds are full to the brim around us. We've had campers in our group cancel at the last minute, and the campgrounds fill the spots the same day.
We tried to make our regular yearly reservations in January, but places were full. We have been traveling farther and farther to places our group will fit this year.

In Ontario, the provincial parks are packed. It is good to see people out enjoying the great outdoors. Not so good, if you want to do a quick last minute getaway!

as I see it an been told is that camp grounds are cheaper than B&M dwellings by far, thus the surge in full timers in camp grounds ... As well it's easier to buy a trailer than a house, some but not all loans for house's are asking 10 percent down, out here on the left coast that would be 40 or 50K for down payment since most homes out here are in the 400 to 600K range for a shack less than 1400sq ft I'm sure the Mid West states are cheaper in price but a few friends state that even Idaho, Montana, Wyoming price's are gaining steam very quickly an the price's are jumping quickly ... I’m near the end of camping at a park in NW Ontario. There have been open sites but they have been open only one night. We have not seen an empty site two nights in a row.

660catman I can tell you three years ago while traveling back east that all the nice sites with patio's were taken up with full timers.. The travelers got stone either pull thoughts or back site which at times would not include full hookup, some not even sewers, water etc an they wanted an arm an a leg for such ... This year looking around the Area at four different camp grounds I have not seen open camp sites very often... One of the Camp grounds I pass expanded their camp ground to twenty-five new cement site's, the minute they were done they were full within a week with full time construction worker for the most part do to a large anout of building around the area...
