Anyone who recently received a new 2022 KZ Durango unit with off the grid package, can you confirm if you received the Xantrex Freedom XC Inverter/Charger with the package or the Xantrex Freedom X Inverter?

I'll let you know what type I have when I get my trailer back from repairs. It was delivered to me last April. A tire had a flat and the driver kept driving causing damage to the trailer. Transport company gave the run around and the trailer hasn't been fixed yet. Carrier didn't apparently have insurance on the truck towing my trailer. Fortunately I had my own insurance company who will go after the carrier for repairs. Bought the 321 RKT in March, delivered in April, still at service center. I'm missing a bunch of camping. It's nice to have the solar on the trailer. I don't have to plug it in in the driveway. It keeps the lithium battery charged for slide outs and jacks to mount up.

Thanks for the response Joe, just to fill you in on my predicament to see if you will have the same or not. I purchased the off the grid package with the optional lithium ion battery so sounds similar to your set up. If you go on the KC website it says Freedom XC Inverter Charger for both solar packages. Mine only came with the Freedom X Inverter which which doesn't have the xantrex charger built in. So it appears that the charging is being done the traditional way through a converter and that switch to select Lithium Ion in your battery bay. This is not the ideal setup and I don't believe it takes into account the battery type. Lithium Ion batteries are sensitive to charging voltage, etc. My issue is the voltage being sent to the battery when I first connect to shore power or generator is above the 14.8V fault current within the BMS of the Lithium Ion Battery. So basically the battery goes in fault protection mode and won't take charge. My work around is to wait for the voltage to drop after being connected for a while, turning off the battery disconnect switch, resetting the battery and then turning it back on. The voltage is below the 14.8 fault so it takes charge. This is by no means a fix, just a work around.
My dealer is in contact with KC to determine if the XC inverter/charger combo should have been installed during manufacturing. The Xantrex Charger in that combo has the option in the system to select the type of battery (Lithium Ion) to prevent this exact scenario as different batteries require different voltages. The MPPT charge controller on the Solar side of the system has the same option. Be sure to go into the charge controller settings in that system to ensure the Lithium Ion Battery is selected. Mine wasn't. I had to change it. Process is in the manual.
Cheers
Corey

Jim, Did you opt for the Xantrex 125ahr Lithium Battery? If so, any issues with battery faulting and not charging?

I have what KZ says is a 2021 382MBQ and it has a zantrex 1200 and a standard 12v converter but had the solar package ordered when it was built. Came with 1 panel (added 1 more at the dealership) and 2 100a Sun power lithium battery’s at the dealer. It also came with the 10 gallon water heater.

Just picked ours up June 8th … we have the Xantrex XC inverter … although it was dead on arrival and had to be replaced! All good now .. so far! So you have the XC Inverter/Charger combo unit and not the X Inverter? My Battery charges from the WF-9855LiS Converter with the Lithium Ion remote switch but the battery is faulting below the 14.6 Volts the converter puts out for the Lithium Ion set up. The battery is designed to fault at 14.8V so I have a new battery on the way under warranty and hope this resolves the issue. The better set up would be to have the XC Inverter/Charger combo and you could just program the charger for lithium ion battery's and set the max voltage to whatever you want. I purchased the Bluetooth remote panel to connect to the Xantrex inverter. Way easier to monitor when it is running shore power or inverting and you change the settings in the inverter or in your case the inverter and charger if you have the XC, if required. It also shows you the load on the system from the Xantrex App. They should come with these pre-installed if you ask me. Yes correct … we have the Xantrex 2000W XC inverter/charger with Lithium 125AH battery and Bluetooth control panel. We can monitor everything in real time … battery charge and power use. It is great!

They were probably out of stock on the XC model and just stuck in what they had on the shelf. Lyle

I just saw the specs and stuff for the New off grid package, IMPRESSIVE but expensive. I would have had this installed when ordered. 2023. Our 2021 (really 2020) had the factory installed solar package. It has the 2020 stuff installed even though I bought a 2021. Our 382 is at the factory now for warranty work and am hoping for the best. There are significant differences between 2020 and 2021 factory solar setups.

Anyone who recently received a new 2022 KZ Durango unit with off the grid package, can you confirm if you received the Xantrex Freedom XC Inverter/Charger with the package or the Xantrex Freedom X Inverter? I just purchased a 22 Venom 3916TK with the solar package. Per KZs website supposed to have xantrex xc inverter. Looks like i got a X only. Batteries will not charge plugged in to 30 amp power at storage site. Moved rv into the sun and battery started to charge.. Not sure about charging while running generator. Any word from KZ about x vs xc inverter? Do i need to install a charger or upgrade the inverter? I tried to connect to the battery or inverter with no luck to try and see what was happening. Thank you.

Tiredude, is this the first time using your unit. Is your battery disconnect switch turned off? If you have the X like I had on my Durango then you should have a separate converter in the unit that charges the battery. If you are using the Xantrex Lithium iron phosphate battery ensure the button on the side is turned on and the battery disconnect switch is in the On position.
In order to connect to the Xantrex X inverter you have to ad the Bluetooth remote panel. However you should be able to connect to your Xantrex battery via the AP as long as the battery is turned on and you have green lights on the side.

Bigland thanks for responding. Yes it is my first time using solar and all that goes with it. I had the rv plugged in to 30 amp connection at the rv storage. The xantrex battery was blinking green on the first dot. After a week of being plugged in the battery was still on the first led bar. Hooked up and took the rig in for service and after an hour or so sitting in the sun the battery started to show green on the second green light. So it seems i am not charging under 30 amp shore power so that is why i was asking about the xantrex X vs XC inverter.

Tiredude, If you are plugged into shore power and have the X inverter which is not the inverter/charger combo then somewhere you should have an independent converter in your unit. Just to confirm, your battery disconnect is in the "On" position?
Your solar system and charging system via shore power are two independent systems from each other, hence why your battery still charges with solar and not shore power. They complement each other. You can have the battery disconnect turned off and as long as the battery itself is turned on the solar system will still charge the battery, however shore power will not when the battery disconnect is off.
In the Durango's, if you have the X inverter, the independent converter is behind the basement wall in the storage. Same manufacturer so most likely the same general area for the venom. Mine came with a WF-9855LiS Converter. With that being said, converters are usually pretty easy to hear when you first connect to shore power. You should hear a humming noise from behind the wall when you first connect to service. I would remove the wall, probably a few screws and make sure its plugged in if you do not hear any noise. Nothing surprises me these days with the manufacturers. Could be a faulty converter, might not be plugged in, who knows.
If your not comfortable with that then I advise bringing it to your dealer under warranty.

And download the Xantrex AP to monitor your battery via Bluetooth, I could never get the actual Xantrex Battery AP to work for my battery. They are separate APs. You should be able to pick up the BMS from the battery when in close enough range with the Xantrex AP. You can then see the charge rates, whether its charging or discharging, % charge. If you plug in to shore you should see anywhere from 30-50 amp/hr charge rate depending on the % your battery is at. If it is just solar it will be a lot less amp/hrs. And make sure your switch next to your solar MPPT charge controller is switched to Lithium.
If you don't use the AP then the green lights on the battery indicate %. you can look in the battery manual. 1 blinking green is like 10-30% and each light means a higher percent. You get he idea. 3 Solid Greens is 100%.
