I don't think a rough road will hurt your springs as long as they don't break. Weight your rig before you replace with heavier springs. It is possible your rig has more weight on one side. Last thing as far as tire wear. Many trailers are built with axles that are not aligned. There are shops that will check and fix this for you.

Tires and springs are often marginal to save cost. When you know the actual weight, upgrade to better components. Do not buy cheap Chinese tires, I prefer made in USA LT tires.

Noticed after returning from the great SW and traveling up I 25 which is the roughest road in the country..That my outside tread of passenger side of fifth is burning off on both tires...Jacked her up and checked both spring assemblies and notice nothing broken with the exception that on both springs the bundle clips had moved forward and were on just the front portion..tapped and hammered back into place..Checked wheel bearing from any movements and nothing noted excessive..But what does look abnormal is both springs look flat and the other side has a bow...It is possible the rough road collapsed these springs..5 leaf sets..Any thoughts on replacing 6k springs with 7k springs..Figure total mileage on unit is about 9800 miles towing....Just my opinion..I 25 from NM to Wyoming boarder is one rough road.. It's very probable that you're much heavier on that side than the other and, with the extra weight and the pounding =any= road gives our rigs, they simply could have flattened out. Springs =can= be re-arched, but it's usually better in the long run to simply replace the entire spring packs. Stepping up in capacity can't hurt, but can make your rig run rougher. If you've got the scratch, check into replacing the entire suspension system with something like this: www.roadmasterinc.com/products/travel_trailers/comfort_ride_ss.html. If you're a traveler more than "sitter", then having a good suspension system will make your tow more comfortable as well as extending the longevity of your trailer. There are other systems out there, including air ride systems. None are cheap... I sure wish we could get some Aussie engineers over here to re-design RV suspensions. THEY've got some awesome systems since their roads, or lack of roads, are =tough= on running gear. Lyle

Depending on how much the RV is use would be the determinating factor for me. Weekends & vacation I would check on what the differance on the 6K axle and 7K (call to Dexter?) and just replace the springs if that's all that's different. Full time or close to I might change the system to that Lyle linked to depending on price, looks really good. I do my own work so I would not have a labor charge on the upgrade.
I live just off I-25 and traveled it semi regular and it's way better than I-10 especially though Louisiana. Lyle: That link may cost me

View Attachment I live just off I-25 and traveled it semi regular and it's way better than I-10 especially though Louisiana. Sorry, Edd... :-) Depending on cost, I'm pretty sure I'll at least get their shocks. I called and talked to them yesterday and asked a few questions. The full slipper spring setup says that it =requires= the shock kit (and shows shocks in the install instructions, but they don't sell a spring kit / shock kit bundle. Greedy, if you ask me... FWIW, there's a dealer here in town that we've done a lot of business with, so I trust that they'll give me a decent price. Lyle

Not yet. I plan on contacting my local dealer, as that will be most accurate for =me=. I'm sure they'll deal a bit. I just need to measure my axles, though I'm sure mine will be the 5k lb size. Lyle

After talking with both Dexter and Lippert I decided to take the shackels apart and check for worn parts. On the front leaf springs both the plastic sleeves were worn gone...The shackel brackets attached to E-Z ride were worn oblong..Called Etrailer and ordered HD shackel brackets with copper bushings ..Wet bolt kit..Got the field side installed and will do the road side tomorrow and road test ..I would bet that with all this extra movement was the root cause of of excessive tire wear...
Figure about 12k total miles on rig and suspension worn out..

Update...Took unit into truck center foe wheel alignment and found main frame twisted 3/32 inch off center...Removed all under covering and they were able to pull frame to center straight line to wheel centers..Added rear X stablizer behind rear wheels and put everything back in place..Also new HD greasable shackel pins and straps.. New GY Endurance tires and out the door at 1148 dollars.. That twisting was causing the premature tire wear causing excesice toe out..

There was a guy on rv.net several years ago, that was having tire issues and had his axles aligned. Found out that the pin box was 3/4" off-center to the frame. Another quality LCI product. Lyle

This why I changed to MorRyde SRE4000 with wet bolts an added the MorRyde X factor stabilizers, if I could have offered it I would have went the way RonC went with the MorRyde IS suspension ... I'm still thinking of adding the shocks as well in the future ... As few of us have found out that the the plastic insets for the springs an spring hangers do not last worth a darn an should be replace with brass or copper bushings that are greaseable along with better shackle pins an spring hangers if you plan on traveling any miles at all ... Safe Travels Chuck
