Took a small trip to my sister-in-law's house in Chino Valley (N of Prescott AZ, about 135 miles one way) and decided to take the FW up as they have a 30a plug on the house. Nice, uneventful trip and it was also my first long trip towing after using some Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. Now, I don't know how much this helped and I know we were very light; just snacks for food, some bottled water, cans of soda, about 10 gal fresh water and clothes for 3 days. (On top of my normal "overhead" load of stuff in the basement.) Going up I-17 at Black Canyon, I was easily able to maintain 60 mph. (I know that when we go up to our annual boondocker, and I'll probably be close to 1,000 lbs heavier, I won't be able to do this.) With my old Komfort, I was only able to go about 35-40 mph up that same grade and was probably 1500-1800 lbs heavier, when loaded. I went ahead and filled up before leaving and calc'd 12.26 mpg, probably the best I've ever seen when towing. I did not add more Lucas. This is a 3500' elevation change, with lots of ups and downs in-between. Due to not having access to their sewer clean-out, I decided to just head home without dumping. Back down the hill with mostly full black and grey tanks, which I figure was 650-700 lbs more. Dropped the trailer off at home to unload and clean up and took it back out to my shop Sunday morning (made me miss the start of The 500! Grrrrr...), and decided to fill up again. When I logged this fill-up, which included the extra 30 miles to and from the shop and fuel, my app calc'd my mileage at 12.89 mpg! Even better than going up! Long story short, I'll be watching how my truck performs over the next few tanks to see if using the Lucas translates into better mileage around town. I've used Diesel Kleen off and on for probably 10-12 years, and I feel that it has helped to keep things clean, but I've never seen this. My truck is just now coming up on 108,000 miles, so may just be "breaking in" a bit more. Lyle

Please post a follow up from your next trip or whenever you have more data? I like to hear these real world results. I'm running without any additives and my results are very poor compared to yours. 16.8 MPG to and from work mixed city and freeway, EMPTY. Our last short trip TOWING was 68.5 MILES @ 10.6 MPG "about" 12,000 lbs. It was raining and windy? I'm just under 40,000 total miles on the truck. I rarely exceed 65 MPH.

Keep us update I also use Diesel Kleen and wouldn't think twice about changing.

I used to use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in my old Dodge V10 but I haven’t tried it in my diesel. May have to give it a shot.

I have kinda come to expect 12 -13 maybe a bit more with a tailwind... I haven't been out this year so far, due to moving from Vegas to Rapid City... but the Durango will make the trip before too long... 1100 miles. I-80 gets up past 7,000 feet across Wyoming... a nice tailwind always makes me smile....

As of now, we =may= take it back up to Chino Valley for my wife to stay for a couple months to work. She's getting to where she can't tolerate the heat. I'll be sure to post. Assuming it stays up there, we'll be heading to our annual family boondocker up 30 miles S of Flagstaff, so will be checking there, too. I'll be honest, I didn't always use Diesel Kleen, especially since I often just dropped $20 of fuel in for around town and I'm lazy and don't like to strain my brain to figure out how many ozs to put in on a short fill. :-) I've been told by a couple people that, at just under 108k miles, I'm lucky I haven't had injector issues, so I'm doing everything I can to =not= have them. :-) I can tell you that about 15 years ago, there was a local company that was making 99% biodiesel (1% petro diesel for some tax reason), and my truck just love it. It was noticeably more quiet (the Banks Monster Exhaust was much louder than I anticipated, so this was nice), my mileage picked up by 1-1.5 mpg, it fixed a fuel sending unit issue and I smelled like french fries driving down the road. Sadly, they sold out, then shut the facility down. I probably ran a total of 500-600 gallons through my truck over a 3-4 year period and would run it again, with no reservations, if the price was competitive.

Injectors at 108K? I have never had to replace one in any of my power strokes, one in the 60 series Detroit at about 250K.

I’m new to the diesel world with a purchase about a month ago. From what I’ve read bad fuel can be hard on injectors and the CP4 injector pumps. Diesel Kleen comes well recommended on the Duramax forum I belong to.

Diesel Kleen comes well recommended on the Duramax forum I belong to. Absolutely one of the most important is clean fuel. Filtered when dumped, filter from the pump, transfer tank has another filter, Ford runs 2 fuel filter, frame mount and engine mount. I add the Diesel Kleen when I know I'll be pulling mountains, they make multi additives Centene Boost, Anti Gel etc. The anti gel can be very important depending where you live,

Never had a fuel issue even at -25c. I’ve been looking into a lift pump and secondary filter system. GM doesn’t have these.

Given that I'm looking at, possibly, buying a '21 D'max, I'm going to baby the crap out of it, so will likely be adding fuel treatment from day 1. I'd =still= like to run the 99% biodiesel, though. :-)
