Does anyone have anything other than the basic shelving brackets in their pantry? We can NOT load our pantry before traveling due to the shelves falling off, which means anything on the bottom gets crushed. Even when empty, the shelves will fall off the brackets. Anyone done a mod to replace the shelving in their pantry? I'd =love= to have sliding shelves, but I'd lose so much space due to the front trim "lip". The sliding frame would have to be probably 4-5" narrower than the pantry and could only be anchored top and bottom, unless I put in spacer blocks to screw to. Just frustrating that we have to spend time packing all our "pantry stuff" in boxes and crates, then more time unpacking when we get somewhere.
Anyone who has modded their pantry, please post pics!
Thanks, Lyle

What if you installed quarter-round or cleats along the bottom of the shelves to give them some extra support? You could put them on the top as well to keep the shelf from bouncing. You would lose the ability to move the shelves though.
Editing to add, if you put cleats on the top, don't make them super snug. You'll want to give that shelf a little bit of flex room to move with the trailer.

I was thinking you could put quarter round vertically in all 4 corners of the pantry between the shelves to support them while travelling. If you pre-drill the quarter round and use wood screws they would be easy to remove and modify. We haven't had any trouble with ours, but we have a rather large pantry.

Thanks, gents. I =have= seen some brackets that actually have a top clip to hold the shelf, but they've all been plastic, so I doubt they'd last very long. I'm going to start looking at better shelving to see what I can find. I know the DW would =love= pull-out shelves, as the pantry is actually pretty deep and it's hard for her to see to the back of it.

Oh, I was thinking that you had wooden shelves in your pantry. For the wire, could you bend the insertion prongs in or out a little bit to create a tighter connection between the shelf and the bracket?

I converted our "pantry" into storage for our cleaning stuff. Ripped out the shelves and installed hooks. I then removed the entire "front bedroom" the wall that divided it, and essentially demoed the whole thing because of the "pantry." My solution is a bit extreme, but as the saying goes "steeped in blood so deep." Now we have Ikea 30" base cabinets with 12" wall cabinets in the front. No problems with storage anymore.

Nothing to keep them from bouncing around. I'm heading out to our shop, where it's stored, and I'll shoot some pics. Lyle
