You guys that are curious to see what's out there, no matter the brand, have you seen ANY fifth wheel that doesn't have those stupid solid steps? Just curious...

Spent most of the last year narrowing it down to the Durango and they all had 'em. So far I'm not that impressed. They work great while you're set up but when you just need to stop along side the road for a bathroom break or something they're pretty inconvenient. Jay

Only way I have seen an "old school" set of steps, was as a second entrance on a Grand Design toy hauler, probably to the back bath. I have the same love/hate with the steps as most have expressed here. Kirt

Maybe one or two of the old stye steps in newer 5th wheels in the two years running around the country but for the most part all the newer rigs have those wonderful Step above steps in them I do see the old school steps in allot of the TT but not in 5th wheels As far as finding a spot to kick the tire's an let the DW use the ladies room we have not had any problems, we just find a spot that I know I can deploy the steps without a problem ... Most times that means a spot in a rest area at the close end were there is no other parking spots or far away from others parked or on the side were the grass is instead of out in the drive thought ... The nice thing about the step above steps they are wide, solid an the DW loves the hand rail an I didn't have to lift that 165pd Great Dane into the trailer do to the fact he was terrified of the old bouncy steps in our old trailer ... It took over a year for him to trust the newer steps because he was sure they would give if he walked on them ... Our new Doberman runs up an down the step above steps like he is in the house, thank God he only weights in at 95pds LOL ... Safe Travels Chuck

I believe I've shopped / looked at as many as anyone has....here's my take on it: Those steps are provided by Lippert; I believe Lippert changed or upgraded what they offer, and every RV manufacturer uses / installs whatever Lippert offers. So no....I haven't found any without them either and probably won't unless it's used. FWIW, hubby likes them.

Since there is no need for frame preparations and body work, plus very little installation time, guess why you are seeing so many of these. The consumer can deal with parking and adjusting just to suit the stupid things.

MorRyde came out with the Stepabove steps before Lippert, Lippert than made a version of such, The earlier Kz Durango Gold 5th wheels had MorRyde steps in them then later on they changed to the Lippert (LCI), more than likely LCI gave them a better price on such ... I firmly believe that either MorRyde or LCI steps are very solid an are a vast improvement over the old bouncy steps of the past ...
The difference in the two are that the LCI Steps have a wider platform on the top step where the MorRyde has the normal step at the top ... Both come in different widths, wide an narrow bepending on what door size you have
As Stated in another post we have the MorRyde with the lift assist an hand rail, I or the DW can lift the steps with one hand thus if I forget she can store them
Safe Travels
