We have a 2019 1500 256rks 5th wheel, purchased new about a month ago, it is winterized. We leave Wed. morning for Alabama. My question is how does one keep things from freezing inside the unit while running down the road. Sorry if this has been hashed over and over, very new to this. I plan on setting up my profile when we get down there. Thanks

Don't de-winterize before traveling, so your pipes don't freeze. Don't be afraid to run the furnace while traveling, either. In nearly 15 years of reading various RV fora, I've never seen a post detailing an issue with doing so, other than burning a lot of propane. Many snowbirds don't even stay in their rigs while winter traveling, choosing to simply bomb through and stay in hotels until their destination and they can de-winterize.

Thank you, just talked to dealer who said the same thing. The furnace can be run while traveling, turn off when filling up at gas station. I have learned a lot reading this site, only problem is trying to remember it all. Will de-winterize and sanitize when we get there. Thanks again

I leave my heater on during winter travel and fuel at truck stops for the discounts I get, diesel is not as volatile as gas. I winterize with air, blowing out all water lines, so de-winterizing means turn on the pump or hook to the CG water supply.

Good advice guys, not a whole lot more to add. Lots easier to dewinterize than fix cracked plumbing at the (hopefully) warmer destination.

Hope you're going to the coast, it's 25 degrees in NE Alabama right now.

We are in Foley, not real warm but warmer than Illinois. Thanks all, very uneventful trip.

I have found that when we winter traveling fire up the generator and run the electric fireplace and add another ceramic electric heater to the bathroom bedroom area. Run a total of 2500 watts. This will keep her nice and warm.Could run the furnace but inside slide covers three vents only leaving bathroom and bedroom basement vents open. I also run fridge on electric.

You =should= run the furnace =fan=, even with no heat. Circulates warm air into the basement, assuming, of course, you have a "heated basement". Also, if it's going to be extremely cold, you'd also want to prop open cabinet doors where there's plumbing so warmer air can get in there, too. You should be doing the same thing even when camping and not using the furnace; fan to warm the basement and cabinet doors open. Lyle
