Hello,
Newbie here, so please forgive me if I make a faux pas.
My husband and I are planning to full-time starting in August 2022. We like the Durango Gold G387FLF, but think it's unlikely that we're going to find the combination of things we need (desk instead of dinette, residential fridge, outside TV) in a model already on the lot. We figure we're going to have to special order to get exactly what we want (we both work full-time, so the desk is a necessity - we also want to leave out one of the loveseats in the living room so I can put my desk in there).
Does anyone have experience with special ordering a rig? I'm wondering what the timeframe was, if there were any particular obstacles, did you have to pay in full before ordering, etc. I want to make sure we leave ourselves plenty of time (including potential hiccups) to have the rig by late July 2022.
I realize it probably sounds like overkill to be asking about this so early, but financially we need to get our ducks in a row so I'm trying to find out what to expect.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

KZ does not build any one particular brand constantly. Their lines rotate between brands/models.
There are basically 3 plants one for 5th wheels, one for travel trailers and a lamination plant.
KZ is also reluctant to do any customization, deleting a love seat may prove to be your biggest hurtle and may have to be done at the dealer level.
Depending on the actual.need at the time is what will be coming off the line. If there is a large amount of orders for Sportsman 5th wheels the assembly line will be producing those until all.orders are completed. Only then will they start on something else.
The other factor right now is covid. The workforce is depleted and the order rate is high. Under normal circumstances 8-12 weeks for an ordered unit. RIight now your guess is as good as mine. Again under normal circumstances the assembly line is capable of about 20-25 units a week, and they are running at max and can't keep up with orders.
When I ordered mine back in January 2017 it took 13 weeks from the date I ordered to the date I drove it off the dealers lot.
As far as financing it is all done at the dealer level. It will most likely require a deposit .Read your contracts VERY carefully. It may have a nonrefundable deposit should you change your mind And clauses that state they can raise the selling price . Also choose your selling dealer carefully, as service after the sale may be more important to you than a lowball price.
You may also want to search rvtrader for available units. You would be surprised what is out there and prices all over the board.

What Jetzen said, and welcome to the site. No worries about any faux pas, no attitude here.

Sounds to me like a factory visit next spring might be in order, assuming things are open again. Grease the skids, as it were, and get info =directly= from them and not 2nd hand from the dealer. Heck, it's got to be easy to delete something from the factory. Just add your own once you get it.

bratcw Kz has done tours in the past, but with the crud going around they may have suspended such so I would call ahead if you plan on doing such ... Also as jetzen stated pick a dealer who will work with you an not just want your money ... I can't say it enough !!!! The dealer is 99% of buying a trailer, even if it the best trailer in the world a bad dealer will put a bad taste in your mouth not only against the dealer but the MFG of the trailer ... Good luck an safe travels Chuck
