Kyle The company i drove for just before retiring had Volvo's an Frightliner's along with some KW's, I have owned KW's, Pete's an GMC's an I did like the Volvo's the company had but the long nose KW I owned with that Cummins 500hp 16 speed was my favorite truck to drive ... The company I retired from had Cummings an Detroit engines, I always like the Cumming because the pulled
the hills allot better with a heavy load an preferred the 13 speed Spicer over the 16 speed ... The company
also had automatics an I really wasn't a fan of such in the snow, give me stick anytime in snow ...

Never drove a Volvo, Freightliner, Pete, KW, Ford & International training and too many miles in a Freightliner Classic & Western Star.

Dad bought a '60's vintage White? cabover. I have zero clues as to what motivator it had in it, just that it was a POS, but ran. :-) Had a 5-speed hi/lo; Roadranger? I used to drive my '74 Chevy 4-speed without clutch all the time, so the Ranger was a piece of cake. Use to piss Dad off 'cause he couldn't shift that thing to save his life. :-)

Clutch was for stopping and starting other wise useless. I recall changing rigs & transmissions from 9/10/13/18 and forgetting which and where, time to start over

Clutch was for stopping and starting other wise useless. I recall changing rigs & transmissions from 9/10/13/18 and forgetting which and where, time to start over Amen on the stop an start, I as well have handled a 9/10/13/16 but no 18 speed, started out with a 5 an 4, as well a Mack with a 5 an 3, two sticks, hated that truck, had a Henderson rubber suspension, neither one you couldn't miss
a gear otherwise you started all over Ugh !!!!
I forgot I owned a WD9000 Ford at one time, it has a Cummings 903 V8 an also drove a older Freightliner cabover, man
those trucks had really good heaters in them, heat you out an a few IH Cabovers ... I also drove a couple of Cab over
Petes in my time, one running east to west hauling swinging meat an the other hauling steel, both had 350hp Cummings
with a 13 speed in them ...
I think back about starting out with 40ft trailers an then God forbid we got 45ft trailers, how in the world I thought was I going to get the extra 5ft around a corner LOL ... Then they came out with the 53ft trailers an I said no way will I ever get that around a corner an almost took out a light pole the 1st time but after a week or so I looked back at were I started an laughed thinking about those 40 an 45 footers ... Ended up pulling pull rocky mountain doubles an regular doubles hauling regular freight which always was a chore finding a parking spot for the night to sleep do to the fact that regular guys with single trailers would take up doubles parking if there was any ..
Safe travels

I don't know how this guy drove on the road, but I watched a YT video several years ago of a guy in OZ backing a set of triples into an indoor docking bay. Dock manager said he loved watching professionals work. :-)

I was at a feed mill when a guy came in and asked if I could move my truck as he wanted to back into the dock, he was driving doubles. I moved and watch him back it like it was a single, told him I'm impressed. Found out he was a local and in and out daily and knew exactly where he need to be to setup. Love to see triples.

Yep, when I was leasing trailers I had a guy back a set of doubles 90 degrees into a spot, cost me a tire thumper as I bet him he couldn't. Turns out his dad was a dispatcher for a fuel company. This driver had been practicing / learning in the yard since he was a kid while dad worked.

Took me about a year to get comfortable enough that I didn't worry what dock they assigned me. Wife rode enough that when they said pick a dock, I'd take the hard one. She would ask why that ones easier, "because I can", gave me more confidence when things were tight.
