How much weight can the roof safely support? Need to get up there to make some additions.

Welcome!
Most will support a large man. It is a good idea to get two pieces of plywood, 1/2" thick or more, that will span over three rafters. That would be a minimum of 33" long and at least two feet wide. You would then leap frog the plywood as you advance. You can not have sharp edges or splinters on the plywood. It would be best to ask your dealer first, maybe they cheapened the roof structure.
