I have a new 2020 Durango 333RLT. It is pre-wired for a backup camera. Before I take it apart to install one I would like to know if it is wired for power all the time or is it just connected to the running lights? I would like to use the camera while hooked as a backup/rearview camera and unhooked as a surveillance camera to watch the carrier and contents mounted on the rear of the RV.

Good evening, ours works only when the lights are on. We used a Furrion camera and it was plug and play. Just be careful with the tiny screws. Kirt

I have to say looking at the Kz web page a 2020 Durango 333RLT is a great looking trailer On your build sheet or the sheet that detailed what your trailer had which should have been provided by your dealer it should have stated what options your trailer had ... If the dealer didn't provide one you may be able to contact Kz Customer Service an ask this question by providing your trailer serial number ... Again your dealer should have provided a sheet showing you all the options the trailer had an shown you such when you did your PDI/walk though before you signed away your life
Since I have not seen you model of trailer I would almost bet it is wired for a camera, most models today are even it it's not there... I would also bet it has to be wired to your marker lights in order to work, most now days are ... Looking at the Kz web site the 2020 Durango 333RLT has a camera attached to the back just below the center marker light, so I'd bet there is wiring for a camera already there they just didn't put such on your trailer maybe because it was an option an your trailer wasn't built with that option included ...
Stay Safe

I'd like to do the same with mine, and I believe it can be done. A lot of the Toy Hauler guys out in the desert had a way to power up all their running lights so it was easier to find them. Not sure about this but I think they made a wired pigtail of sorts from battery's to the 7 pin plug. Bad part is for this application all the running lights have to be on. I have to turn my head light switch to " Full On" and not be on the auto sun censor position for camera to work. I'd like to have a few cameras all around the trailer for security, I think the viewing screen splits 4 ways. Might be best to just get a few wireless (Ring cameras) and stick them up. You could watch on a phone or ipad that way.

Don't Ring cameras require wifi? How would that work?

I'm thinking Hot Spot, or use cell phone as a hot spot. I haven't done it Johnr, but think it should work. I actually have one in a box, I'll give it a try.

The pre-wired camera setup for the Furrion camera works good. The headlights have to be on and you have an observation camera all the time while driving as well as the back-up camera.

Fortunately I ran a surplussed USCG 40ft Utility at the department I worked for on the left coast. Repainted green & gold, had to learn radar use as it seemed it was always the worst weather when it left the dock. Loved that boat, not much it wouldn't handle. USCG 40ft Utility

I would assume if one can figure out how to connect up cam power to the running lights under the camera mount, they would have constant power without the headlights having to be on correct?

I'm curious because I just purchased and did my final walkthrough ( won't pick up officially until the boo boos are fixed), but while the 2021 356RLT says pre-wired (furrion), all the reading on furrion suggests their systems are wireless. So my question is whether KZ is pulling my leg saying the RV is pre-wired (having a furrion logo on plastic cap), or if there is actually wiring behind it should I decide to put some other brand of back up camera system up there? If it's wireless, then it just screws and link it up and certainly not a $400 installation.

I have a 2019 356RLT and there's wiring (it's a plug for Furrion cam) behind the plastic cap. I know because I disconnected that plug and wired up a Garmin wireless backup camera that works with my Garmin GPS unit in the cab. It appears to me all you have to do is buy the furrion camera and install should be pretty easy. The power for the cam comes from the running lights on the Durango, i.e., when your truck's headlights or parking lights are on, there's power to the camera.

Power seems to be supplied by one of the running lights, so you'll have to run with the headlights on. The connection to the receiver is wireless. Lyle

All my research has told me there is a black and red wire solely for power only. It's designed specifically for furrion wireless systems. I'm buying my system via Amazon rather than the dealership as it's about 20% cheaper and it's plug n play. Just pop off the covers (remove the screws), install the wires, reattach, and secure your screen in your truck and link your signal. I'm curious how others like their system.

Pre-wired Furrion system has a simple RCA plug to connect to a Furrion camera. I went this route for ease of install and ordered off Amazon. Works great. Love for the fact I can watch the boat behind camper while travelling, and for hooking it up of course. For my GM truck I can turn on the fog lamps which turn the running lights on too. This way you don’t forget to leave the lights on.

I too have the “pre-wired” camera mount on the back of my 333RLT. When I first connected the camera, it would come on, freeze then lose signal and the screen would turn blue. It would recycle this continually thus making the camera virtually worthless. My son has the same setup and had the same problem with his Montana. Mine would work until you started moving then start fluctuating which led me to believe it was losing power. We both removed the stereo jack connectors then spliced the wires directly, and both have worked flawlessly since.

Personally, I don't want a "backup camera", I want a rear-view dash cam; on all the time, with the ability to record.
