I wondered about the parallel between gen sets. If my 3500I Champion uses the same cable as Kipor IG2000 I can combine them??

I run 2 Honda EU2200i's in parallel if running the Air when not in a park plugged in. Easy to carry them, hook them up, sip gas, very quiet, and always start if you do the correct maintenance. Other brands are ok as well I guess. Honda's been getting my money for years from race bikes, ATVs, street bikes and generators. They have great products. Yes a little more expensive, But worth it to me.

I have a 3300w peak 3000w Firman inverter generator, paid $650 cdn for it, starts easily, fuel efficient, and seems to run anything we want to fairly easily, the AC, the coffee maker, tv, etc. It’s advertised at 68db, haven’t measured it, but its way quieter then my old 3500/3000w champion open frame generator. We also have a 2200/2000w inverter that I found beside a dumpster and brought back to life, it’s very quiet as well, we will be using it when we don’t need to run the AC, but it will run everything else we need.

I was a Honda guy for years. I ran two 2000 iu in parallel and then went for a 3000 Handi. Because I am using them quite a bit each day the hours of run time added up. In two years I had in excess of 7000 hours on the Handi. Based on the cost to replace the Honda's I chose to go with the lesser priced Champions. I currently run two 2000 watt inverters and recently purchased a 4000 watt open frame inverter gen set that works quite well. Watching the sales I bought all three Champions for the price of one Honda 2000.

Open frame in a camp ground won't get you any awards, they are pretty much work generators, the inverters are the quieter.

We also have used 2 Honda 2000 watt generators as needed. They are light, only 50 Lbs each, quiet, and very dependable. I have had mine for 10 years now and they still run as well as the day they were purchased. I also find them handy to have when working in the field around the property to power sawzalls, skill saws, and such. They are also very fuel efficient. There are cables where they can be hooked together and run in parallel or if you are not running the AC or microwave you can run just one. My microwave draws almost as much as the AC. The downside is they are pricey. I am skeptical about the long term durability of the cheap Chinese built units. I would pay a premium for the Honda quality. As insurance I only use ethanol free gas in all my small engines, including my outboard motors, lawn tractor, etc.

Looks like a nice rig and a decent price for the size. Amazing it's taken Onan/Cummins so long to get into inverters. Be interesting to see if they shift that tech into on-board genpacks. Lyle

Onan is now importing these cheap generators and they should not be confused with the high quality American made generators that they sold for many years. Do you think that this one is the same? link

RV Oddcouple had a Champion 3kw go missing from the cargo rack on their FW while THEY WERE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC IN DENVER. Gen was ratchet strapped down but not cable locked, as they usually do. FWIW, Champions can be paralled with non-identically-sized gens, so long as they have the same parallel plugs. This means that you can hook a 1k to a 2k or a 2k to a 3k, etc.
Wow ... that's pretty bold ... too bad the thief didn't get run over.

Do you think that this one is the same? linkI looked at both, and yes they look nearly identical. So I would bet they are made by the same folks. I liked the looks of the Onan better and it said Cummins, so why not. we used it this past week and it is a beast! Ran everything we threw at it and was really quiet. I will do an actual db read the next trip out, but I think it is quieter than advertised. We shut er' down around 9/10pm. Runs for a day and a half from one tank of fuel it seems. I did have the "B" fuel jet in for high altitude. It is 2 sizes smaller than the sea level -2k one. Had to cut our trip a day short because it started raining and the bathroom skylight was pouring water. Looked up and it was cracked inside and out in many places. Our toy hauler is only a week old so she's back at the dealer for work.

I’m late to the party but have some input for future reference. Open frame type generators make what some call, dirty power with 12-25% THD. You want an inverter / generator which has THD of less than 6% on most inverters. Total Harmonic Distortion needs to be low for safe power for sensitive electronics. With the LCI one touch pad in my camper, I want to be safe. I recently picked up two Firman 2100/1700 inverters with 3% THD. Both together is enough needed to start a 15k AC unit which I have. 3500 watts is what’s needed for startup. I have a Champion 4000/3000 open frame for home and it’s loud compared to these Firmans. I also picked up the 50 amp parallel kit as my D250RES fifth wheel is a 50 amp plug. The kit also has a 30 amp twist lock plug too.
