2018 Durango 5th wheel d286BHD
When I step into my trailer immediately to my left is a tall cabinet. In the cabinet are light switches and the various indicators for the tank/battery status. My question, there are two big black switches that control the indoor lights and next to those is a Red switch that illuminates when turned on. I can't figure out what it controls.
It does not turn on the awning light, flood light or cap light. Any suggestions what the red switch controls?

If you have the heated tanks option that is most likely the switch that turns on the heaters. At least that is what I was told on my new to me 2015 Durango 345SE.

When I purchased the trailer the salesman never mentioned it had heated tanks and during my walk though orientation after the purchase heated tanks were never mentioned.

I would probably call your salesman and see if you can get a copy of the features or options that is on your camper. At the very least he can confirm what the switch is for. I looked up your model on the KZ website and it says one of the features is a "heated water convenience center". Not sure if that means you have heated tanks or not but seems like you might have. Here is the link. www.kz-rv.com/2018-products/durango-1500-fifth-wheels/2018-features.htmlI bought mine used and it came with a form that the previous owner fills out listing all of the options on the camper, so that was a big help. My walk through with the dealer went very poorly. He didn't know anything about what options the camper had. When we got to the control panel, I asked the same question you are asking, what does the red switch do? As you can see in the pic everything is labeled except the red switch, probably similar to yours. After several minutes of thinking about it he surmised it was for the tank heaters. The rest of the walk through went about the same, so not a lot of confidence was gained, probably could have just skipped it. Haha! Others may chime in with more of a definitive answer for you. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

They use the red switch so you will no if it was turned on when rolled up. There is also a small switch on the panel for the front lights. I added another strip on mine so I would have light outside when the awnings were rolled up. Otherwise you don’t really have much light outside if the wind is blowing.
hopefully your dealer showed you the second grey water tank handle for the kitchen, mine didn’t and it was open on our first trip. Glad it was grey water but scared me when I took the cap off

Thanks for the info. On/off switch makes sense for the second awning light. I will test it when i get home today. And no, the dealer did not mention the second grey water tank handle. Where is it located? So is one tank for kitchen and the other for the bath shower/sink?

You just proved my dealer really didn't know much about mine when we did the walk through. After I read the answer, I knew the same would be true for mine. When we did the walk through it was indoors and so no room to fully open the awning. When I got home that day I opened it up all the way and noticed an LED light strip on the outer end. I looked for a switch and couldn't find one, knowing the red switch was for tank heater, per the dealer. Keep in mind the PO installed one of those fancy multi colored LED strips just below the awning, so I figured they must have disconnected the one on the end in exchange for the new one. So tonight I opened up the awning and flipped on the red switch and you guessed it, the awning lights came on. Who knows what else I might find later. My first guess is that it doesn't have heated tanks. Thanks again to all

Where is it located? So is one tank for kitchen and the other for the bath shower/sink? Look just behind the main slide out towards the back of the trailer. It’s tucked up under there. I like having the second tank. Couple led of things I have done. Home Depot has some black storage containers made by husky. They fit perfect in the garage area facing the front of the trailer. I put 4 of them in there. i also added some more led lights under my awning. I found on the controller where the factory connected the front cap light. I tied the new lights in there so I can turn the lights on a off with my phone. Handy when arriving back at trailer after dark. lippert make a power cord reel that I really like to keep the heavy cord out of the way. installed backup camera this past weekend but haven’t puked the trailer with it installed. I pull a wave runner behind my trailer and can’t see it so this will really help. Installed tv inside the garage that swings in and out. if I could figure out how to put pics on here I would show you my ideas. Any other questions don’t hesitate, I have been all over this trailer. We have used it almost ever other weekend since last March. Pulled it thousands of mile with no real problems. I have fixed some minor things not worth taking back to dealer for.

Thanks for the information. I see the handle you are referring to, I assumed that was to drain the fresh water tank? So if it is the drain handle for the second holding tank where is the drain for the fresh water tank?

Fresh drain is in front of the tires and just behind the sewer pipe. It’s a single red hose with a valve. You will also see a red hose with nothing on it. That is the overflow to tell when the fresh tank it full. Also there are 2 sets of drains one under the water heater and the other is under the outdoor kitchen.

Thats a smaller drain for the fresh water than what I had on my previous trailer. I think that it would take a while to drain a near full tank. I also like to boon-dock/dry camp a lot. Do you ever use the siphon hose to add water to your fresh water tank? Since the trailer doesn't have a gravity fill outlet seem like this would work pretty well using the water pump to siphon from a container. cloud where do you live, just curious. I am in Lubbock, Texas

I live in Roanoke TX
My son is a red raider, only been to Lubbock a couple times but spent plenty of money there if you know what I mean.
I have never used it to fill the tank so I don’t know if it will work.
The siphone hose is used to winterize the trailer. Works really well. I have to do mine tomorrow as it’s going to get to about 25

I have tested it and you can easily add water to the fresh water tank using the siphon hose. Taking our first road trip to College Station next weekend. Happy Camping Rick

Cloud - I am very interested in how you did the above: 1) How did you run the cord from the LED strip to the garage/controller? through the wall? Can you show me where on the controller you connected into please. 2) Pictures of the cord reel? 3) What backup camera and where did you get power from? 4) Pictures of the TV install please.
You can PM me as well and can send you my cell phone for texts if pictures easier that way!
Rock on, Chris

Nomad MorRyde has two types of cord reels, one of the what they call tall manual spooler for around $150 an up to at Wally World for $200 ... I couldn't find the price on the electric cord spooler but last i looked it was pretty pricey ... We have the manual reel an really like it, easy to use an takes the work out of putting the cord away ... here is a link to the MorRyde reels www.morryde.com/product-category/8-other-productsSafe Travels Chuck

Nomad, give me a little time and I will put it together.
If some one could tell me how to post pics that are not to large in size I will post them so you can see what I have done.
Nomad this past weekend I ripped out the u shaped dinette and made it a regular one and added theater seating where the couch was. Makes the trailer so much better

Thanks Cloud look forward to the answers to my questions above!
