Hello everybody,
New to the KZ forum and considering purchasing a new 292RLLE (https://www.kz-rv.com/products/sportsmen-le-travel-trailers/292RLLE.html).
My TV is a 2015 Silverado 5,3 w/3.42 gears w/factory tow package. We currently have a Jayco expandable x23b and it's rated at 5k loaded. I am wondering if anyone else pulls something with similar weight and length "comfortably" with a Chevy or GMC of the like. We do have a Reese dual cam WDH and I am familiar pulling something this size (but not weight) as we owned a 30+ foot TT in the past pulling in a Dodge Durango, although white knuckled! The truck is rated at 9100 but I know you need to look at GCWR when choosing the right TT for your needs. I live in PA and typically travel on mostly hilly roads but not major mountains. We never carry water and it's usually just the wife and me in the truck, although we may have two other "young adults" kids.... with us. Additional options would be the fantastic fan, slide toppers, and additional awning (11'). Could add a few hundred pounds to the TT.
Anyways, would love some input on this as we REALLY loved the layout and the build quality of the KZ and would want to pull the trigger on this unit very soon.
Thanks, Ken aka Boondocs.

I had a 5.3, 3.42 Tahoe pulling 1,000 lbs less than the proposed trailer. It didn't take long to trade up. I believe you have a 1,800 lb payload and that trailer will be right around 1,000 lb on the ball. Add 100 lb hitch, some luggage and your passengers then the payload will be maxed out. I would never want to be so close to the edge that I couldn't even carry a few hundred lbs of water and use the trailer for the purpose it was built. Just so you know, my 5,500 lb trailer weighs 7,100 lbs ready to travel, so I don't believe any of the weights stated on brochures.
Today I removed the rain gutter above the slide to fix the totally rusted screws from my quality trailer that is garaged except when in use. It never ends!
Welcome, I am from PA and would be glad to help you as I can.

All I can say is I pulled a 5K 26ft 5W with a GMC 1500 5.3, once. Went to a F250SD and didn't know the 5K was there. Pulled so well I went to a 33ft. Now I have an F350 & 35ft, I got foot idas as I spent more time on the road.

Towing almost same trailer, with same truck, in PA. I added and would recommend road master active suspension helper springs. Or similar/air bags. Raised the rear end 1.5" unloaded, only squats 2" towing now. Your maxing it out but can be done. I will be moving up to 3/4 ton next but am satisfied with how things are now and not in a rush to buy. PS it actually tows better with fresh tank full. Tank is in the front so more tongue weight. Yes few hundred lbs more to stop. Gas mileage is negligible.

Thanks, everyone for the posts. I do have a Rough Country 2.5-inch suspension leveling kit on the truck which adds an additional 1" block to the rear but I will look into the roadmaster active suspension helper springs if we decide to keep the truck. I'm not sure I am ready to buy a new/larger truck just yet so I might have to rethink the weight/layout. My thinking is if I go with a 2500/or 35 I would get a diesel and would buy a 5th wheel (talk about adding more monthly payments lol).

So I have a few more questions about the construction of the TT:
1. What frame does this camper have?
a. I beam
b. Tubbier
c. Ultralight frame with holes
2. Floors
a. Plywood
b. Laminated
3. Staples or screws for the construction/ or both?

You will need to personally check out the trailer as specifications change all the time. I see that KZ no longer has a cut-away view in their brochure adding to the confusion. Things are changing since Thor took over.
KZ likely is using a Lippert frame with questionable quality. Look closely for a pieced together imitation I-beam, mine cracked in four places. I do believe they finally quit using that frame in newer models, but you need to look. Check tire and axle sizes against the competition to see if they are just marginal.
The floor was good, again check carefully because you want plywood not laminated or chip board, hopefully they kept it like it was.
Staples and screws are commonly used, check that cabinets and shelves are adequately supported, I added many staples in the next larger size.
