So after looking at the 2018 KZ DG website and seeing that full body paint is an option I want it. I don't want to spend the $13000 to get it but I want it. I have also seen that there are very few full paint Durango Golds out there. I have read and researched a little bit and have come to the conclusion most manufacturers don't do the paint in house. They have a local contract painter handle it. If that's the case, why can't we decide how we would like it painted? There is a YouTube clip of a freshly painted Redwood coming out of the booth and I fell in love with that paint scheme. Maybe it's just my opinion but I think the full body paint is a sign that the unit is more high end. Maybe it just means the owner has more money than they know what to do with... If I had the keys to the castle and didn't have to pay, I'd have my Durango Gold painted in a scheme similar to the early Redwood burgundy style. I'd even spring for custom Durango "Gold" painted graphics and lettering. Can someone rich adopt me? I realize that the full paint option is not a very profitable option from the manufacturers standpoint. I can see that it may be harder to justify the cost to the prospective consumer. But on the other hand, if I am going to custom order what I want on my unit anyway, why not have the option to paint it how I'd like? Am i asking too much?

Nice to look at but not worth the 13,000 they want as an option.

Plus it is not nearly as durable of a finish as the gel coat. Ask anyone who has a full body paint that has owned it for any length of time. They most likely have had sections redone. Spend you money wisely.

In my opinion... I can put a WHOLE LOT OF DIESEL in the truck for the $13000. It does look good, but not a necessary thing for me.

The quality of full body paint can vary widely. A high end motorhome might have paint that is more durable than what the auto industry uses and you might get a disappointing job. Unless you know and understand all the details of the job, it is only a guess about what that 13 grand is buying.

When you walk around the camp grounds and see all the high end Class A's and 5th wheels with road debris damaged paint and peeling clear coats, it's not hard to understand what your $13,000.00 is going to buy.
You really think KZ is going to be any different in that respect?

It's sure pretty, but as stated I can buy allot of DIESEL in my truck for that, we have one owner here on the form that has ordered a G384RLT with full paint but has not received it yet ... I have seen that they are putting full paint on the G385's now as well ... When at the MorRyde factory they had a trailer of another brand in their shop that was getting a full paint job but was having the Independent suspension put on it 1st. looked funny with no paint on it Safe Travels an Happy Glamping Chuck

Front cap repaint about 3K IF it needs done, it was an issue a couple years back with many brands brown caps. that leaves 10K for diesel.

I was reminded in another thread about pealing decals. My Montana was so bad I just peeled all of them off except the side Montana decals. Of course being the kind of guy I am... I added "Nekkid" above each Montana decal. After all is was a big white nekkid Montana....lol
Moral of the story, when dealing with vinyl decals never ever use wash or wax or bug remover or anything that has petroleum distillates. It eats through the vinyl and releases the adhesive.

I got the full body paint on my 2013 Durango... the package was not anywhere near 13,000, but I don't remember what we paid.
The only issue I have had so far is that the brown paint is peeling off of the square slideout caps. My dealer had them re-painted back in the fall of 2015 under an extended warranty claim. They are starting to peel again, and I'm probably on my own. I may just buy new caps and have a local auto body paint shop prep and paint them.
The funny thing is that only the brown ones are peeling. We've got other caps that are painted beige and have not had any issues with those.

A can of Krylon Fusion spray paint is cheap, might last longer, and you will have it for future use. Many stores no longer carry it, but it is available online.

The paint match would probably be unlikely.

Johnr Last I heard the full body paint was 10K, looking on line at RV trader the regular 384 was about 62 to 63K, add the full body paint an upgraded 384 it was 73K to 74K last I looked ... Of course that was what they were asking, my way of thinking was you could always dicker the price down if it was sitting on the lot an not being ordered an it may be that Kz has upped the price .... There is a 2017 Durango Gold 380FLF at Athens RV in Athens, TX and the MSRP sheet shows the full body paint to be $13000.00.

Note ... this post has been edited with more current information regarding pricing.
The current KZ retail sheet lists the price for full body paint as $13,000. Like almost everything that price has a cost plus markup ... that's just the way retail works. If you bought a full body painted rig and got 30% off, that would basically mean that you got 30% off everything. So you'd be getting the paint for about $9,100 (or less) ... which means you should be able to get it done after market for about that. I had a friend that had his 12 year old Cambridge painted and he paid $6,100 (full disclosure, he is a well known personality in the RV world and got a BIG discount, his paint job was retail priced at $9,100), I suspect that KZ, with their purchasing power would get similar or better pricing ... Oh, about the Cambridge ... it looked amazing. Bottom line, don't let the $13,000 scare you off, just concentrate on getting the best price you can on the rig. That $13,000 is no more "real" than the MSRP on the whole trailer, it's just a part of the starting point for negotiations.<style></style>

As I told Darrel the one listed at 73k more than likely could be bought for possibly 65 or 66K out the door, I mean what's 4 or 5K more when you talking those numbers, maybe $75 or $80 added to your payment for 120 years LOL

And Earl Shieb will paint you car for $129.99, and it may look great for a few months till the paint starts to peel off. Just remember as with most things you get what you pay for. And for 6100.00 on a 5th wheel to prep the surface paint it and then reseal you are not getting a quality job. Can it be done sure it can, but I would be real suspect.

I can tell you that our 2006 Coachmen Chappy decals were great on the sides an back, they were pealing on the front cap ... Called Coachmen an ask if I could buy the front cap, they said not available for 2006, I ask about maybe 2007, 2008 or even 2010, they said not available, I ask what about a 2011, they said available for $450, I said forget that Ugh !!! I believe if you take care of your trailer mother nature will eventually win as far as the decals are concerned, the trailer may be shiny but the decals will be toast at least on the cap ... I ask at the rally last year about cap decals an if they were available, I was told yes, but the price was pretty steep as I recall ... Safe Travels Chuck
