Hey looking to make a week long trip to the area. Day trip to Dorney Park. A day trip to the Crayola Experience and a trip to Strasburg Railroad. Been doing some looking. Just wondering if any recommendations or stay away from. Thanks!

We went for a trip on the Strasburg Railroad. One of the passengers sang or hummed loudly along with all of the big band and swing music that was playing... they sat right behind us... and couldn't sing. That's all I remember about the experience, unfortunately. Hopefully you have a better experience or are assertive enough to find some way to get them to stop. We stayed north of Lancaster and drove down on that trip. We do like the Old Mill Stream campground that is in Lancaster. It's easy to access although traffic can be a little heavy at times. It is right in the center of everything that we enjoy doing in that area. You can hear the attached amusement park during the day, but I enjoy those sounds. Good luck!

Strasburg RR....We have had a great time at the Strasburg RR. We have been stopping there for 30+ years, more-so in the past but when we go to Lancaster it is always a stop to at least watch the trains come and go. When our son was small, it was a must attraction when ever in the area. They used to have a stop on the route where you could get off and have a picnic, being picked up by one of the later trains. We would pack or pick up a lunch/snack at local store. Our friends have taken the dinner train and the wine sampling train enjoying both very much.
Campgrounds: We agree with the Old Mill Stream Campground. Be sure it is the Mill Stream CG next to Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park....there is another with a similar name. The amusement park closes at dusk so the evenings are quiet. We usually stay here. I don't like to be negative but the one CG I now avoid is Flory's in Ronks. It used to be our favorite but they have cut trees and changed a lot to accommodate the bigger units, it destroyed the atmosphere and quaintness. It was always a small mom/pop campground....nowhere to expand to, they cut trees to make it work, looks very cramped and I am not a fan anymore....too bad.
If you want a good Amish/home-cooked buffet/meal, try Deiner's Restaurant. The best prices in town and we think it has the best food. If you hit it at prime times you will wait. They have early closing hours so check it out before you go....of course we are usually there during the slow season.
If you have children...grade school/early middle school, the Choo-Choo Barn is fun too. The owner has spent years creating a huge working toy train layout. We have been there several times. It is in a "plaza" area near the Strasburg RR.
There is a great train museum across from the Strasburg RR...it is huge and very well done.
Enjoy

Oh yeah, we always try to go to The Green Dragon Farmers Market when we're in that area. It's only open 1 day a week, but it's fun to walk through. There's a stand there for Sunnyside Pastries that makes the absolute best vanilla cream filled donuts on the planet. They have a store up in East Earl, but it's quite a hike to get there. Buy them fresh and they freeze really well. We buy a bunch and wrap each one individually in foil and freeze them. Then you can get one out and let it thaw naturally in the foil. They taste almost exactly the way they do fresh. I'm not allowed to decide when we get them, my wife is in charge of rationing. If you're not familiar with the Green Dragon, you might want to put a car finder app on your phone. It's very easy to get turned around and it is a very large place. Go early, it's not a quick trip.

Been going to Lancaster since my kids were toddlers, and they're 46 now. Quite a few campgrounds. Depends on how long you're going to stay there. Overnight - Flory's - not fancy, but convenient. There's also Walmart. Longer - several are owned by Miller's smorgasbord restaurants - $$$. Spring Gulch near Holland is a destination and a Encore/Thousand Trails and $$$. There is Lake in the Woods, in Narvon. Really nice place, but $$$.Not so good for big rigs. The only place I wouldn't use is Beacon. Don't know how they exist. Lancaster is an expensive area, and route 30 is always congested - year round. I would look outside of the Lancaster area. Use rvparkreviews.com to find them. They'll also have listings for close towns.
