We recently bought a 3/4 ton and I really dislike driving it. Dh drives a company car so he can't drive it daily. I hate the thought of paying taxes and insurance on a 3rd vehicle, but I think that will be be better for me.

Driving the 3/4 ton is expensive, especially if you're truck has towing gear ratios. I had a 410 ratio that killed the mileage, but towed like a dream. I did buy an older 4 cylinder car off of an estate for cheap and it basically paid for itself in fuel costs within 6 months. I didn't regret having the small daily driver.

Yes Kind of. Wintering in Florida no choice but to use the TV for 5-6 months as the daily driver. When at home the TV gets parked and used sparingly. For me though a 3/4 ton is a piece of cake try it with a one ton crew cab long bed dually. That can be a real PITA.

Yes, totally agree one the one ton dually long bed. It's a hassle to park at times and there are places that are not comfortable to drive. In Holmes County (Amish country), Ohio, a lot of the secondary roads are pretty narrow. When we were touring New England, we actually rented a car to go into Salem and Boston rather than take the dually. I can't beat it for towing, though.

Jetzen's comment about the one ton crew cab long bed dually sounds like our truck . Since we are full timers, it is our only vehicle and it is as described ... long and wide and less maneuverable than smaller vehicles. Both my wife and I drive it and we have learned that the far end of the parking lot is our friend. For us it is fine ... not everyone would feel that way, but the long wheel base that makes it hard to maneuver also makes the ride pretty impressive (for a one ton truck). I was OK with it from the beginning and DW has grown into it. There really is no right way to do this ... just do what works best for you.

I like to use the correct tool for the job. The truck is used only when needed and most routine errands are done with a small car. I don't want to waste an expensive vehicle that is also expensive to operate and maintain. It is nice to know that I have a lower mileage truck that looks like new when it is time to travel.

I have a one ton dually, long bed, crew cab truck and as mentioned it is very large and hard to maneuver in some parking places. And as ronc said, the far end of the parking lot is your friend. I would prefer to be in my truck 100% of the time but due to lower gas mileage and excess fuel costs as well as having a lower mileage truck like lynnmor said I do have a vehicle that I drive to work and for non-rv traveling that gets lots better mileage than the truck. I am a full timer, but am a stationary full timer with the 5th wheel. If I were a traveling full timer, the truck would be my only ride.

F350 LB,crew,SRW for towing 1500 GMC LB extended cab, daily driver far better mileage. Like johnr & lynmor find and oler small car & save the 3/4 ton for towing. Small car better mileage and less wear on the 3/4 ton so the truck will last longer.

F350 LB,crew cab, 4x4, DRW one ton long bed is my daily driver most days, DW has here Rad4 that she drive an I get to use it when it needs gas I try to park away from other but I find if the paring lot is empty an I park away from others when I return there is always someone parked next to my drivers side door where I have to turn sideways to get into my truck ... I have always thought bigger is better, less chance of them cutting in front of me most but not all the time... I get cut off an pulled in front way more with the DW Rad4 than I do with my PU Safe travels Chuck

Then it's not just me! I always park well away from the crowd and say to the DW, "I'll make some SOB walk." Sure enough, when returning I need a can opener to get in. To make this RV related, on hot sunny days some clowns will park up close to a high profile vehicle to take advantage of the shade.

We have a 1 ton long bed SRW that is used off and on as a daily driver. We try to park away from everyone in a parking lot (an extra few steps is good) but for what ever reason they migrate over around us, just can't figure it. There are times I just stand back and say "Really". Have dropped the DW off at the curb and headed out to the North 40. It's about 50/50 between the truck and car. happy Campin....

Edd I use the note pad to put on the cars I see parked in the "Electric Car ONLY" spots, I love asking them where the plug in in for their 1998 Caddy or pickup, better yet the Hummer that is jacked up with 20 lights across the top, chrome all over it Safe travels Chuck

I love reading these notes, very funny! I have a 1 ton, SRW, 4x4, Crew cab for my tow vehicle and daily driver. My wife has a small sedan we use when we go into town or other trips where we don't have the RV. I have leaned that most city parking lots are off limits unless as noted you can find a place in the back with lots of room. And it simply will not fit into a parking garage! I love the truck and would rather drive it all the time, but the car is just easier to drive and park in town and gets much better mileage (I just don't like being so low! I like being up high in the truck so I can see better and I like being surrounded with 8Klbs of steel!) Larkin

If you are full time, like we are, the one vehicle thing works for us 99% of the time. We avoid the acquisition cost, maintenance, insurance and depreciation of a second vehicle. On those occasions where a big dually would be a problem then rent a car. Best of both worlds without the expense of a second vehicle. There are many ways to do this and we aren’t even into the Motorhome discussion. Make your choice, respect that others have a different opinion and enjoy😎

Were money no object, I'd drive my truck a lot more. I =like= driving a truck; what I grew up driving, so I'm used to it. Not that my Sonata's not bad, but I'd rather drive my truck. I can see further, I can be =seen= further, I can (and do) hop curbs, got 4wd when necessary, among other things.

F450 Platinum daily driver for me. I traded a F350 Crew cab short bed for it and haven't looked back. Yes it rides like a buck board empty but I can tow just about anything with confidence knowing the engine, frame, tires, and most importantly brakes can handle it. The F450 uses a different style front axle than the F250/F350s and can turn sharper and is much more maneuverable. I wouldn't even consider a crew cab long bed dually, the turning radius is horrible.
As far as daily driving, I like driving it. Yes it may be big truck syndrome but I feel comfortable. I usually park a ways from the door also. But looking at my physique, I could use the extra steps... The fuel mileage isn't great but it doesn't change much towing or not.
Personally I think comes down to what you are comfortable driving.

I have a F350 SRW and drive it daily to work. I actually enjoy driving a big truck. Parking can be a challenge sometimes, but I love the space around me while driving. I just wasn't built for a smaller vehicle.

When someone parks close enough to make getting in my truck difficult, I like to leave a note that says "Sorry about the dent, but you parked too close." I smile thinking of them examining their car for dents.
