That's a good one! Been there, done that!
I've been wondering about the new trailer backers too. Anyone had a chance to use one yet?

I use to teach over the road semi drivers how to back, sometimes you just what to cry laughing but had to keep a straight face an point out what they were doing wrong Ugh One of the things I noticed with new drivers was that they always started out turning the steering wheel the wrong direct an always start out straight across a slot which they were going to back into instead of pulling away at an angle to the slot they were going to back into making easier to back up Safe travels Chuck & Hildi in S Dakota headed for the Barn

One thing I saw somewhere recently for the newer backer uppers... keep one hand on the steering wheel at the 6 o'clock position, and turn that hand in the direction you want the trailer to turn.

Putting the hand on the bottom of the wheel really saved my soul when I first started towing. That was probably the best piece of advice I've ever gotten, hands down (pun intended)!

Hold the steering wheel at the top with both hands. When backing turn the wheel the direction the thumb points, the back of the trailer will go the direction of that hand.

This was the reaction I got the first time I tried backing a Deuce and 1/2 into a parking stall w/ a 400 gallon water buffalo behind it. Good times. To this day, still the hardest thing I have ever had to back up.

I drove commercially for a few years and worked training new drivers. I used to tell the students you drive forward 99% of the time and 1% of the accidents happen, you backup 1% of the time and 99% of accidents happen. So GOAL, GET,OUT,AND, LOOK. Faster than filling out accident reports.

Amen Edd I do not know how many times I had people walk past or cars pull past the back of my trailer when backing ... The other thing is when your back doors are open make sure they are locked/hooked open so they will not swing into the next truck... The rule is with trailers is the longer the easier, the shorter the harder, try backing a 4ft trailer hooked to your lawn more an you will see what I mean LOL ... Now if you are backing doubles after you lock the pin on the dolly you steer the opposite as what is in Edd505 picture LOL. But I'm sure there are not to many RV owners on this form the pull doubles even thought out west here we can do such in may states. The only place in the United States for years that semi's could not pull doubles was PA. other than the PA Pike were they could pull double 53 footers... In fact out here you can pull triples to the snow flys an then it's only doubles allowed .... BTW we have had snow now today in the mountain passes, about 3 inches at last report, get out the chain boys Safe Travels Chuck Safe travels

When "W" gets here, that means soup and stew season, 24 hours of A Christmas Story, and "downtime" projects on the coach.
