Any weight scale will weight per axle an add the amount of axles together for a gross weight of the vehicle
depending on the type of axles you have. Most scale master can tell you by looking at your tires an axles
an what type of vehicle you have if you are legal or not when pulling across their scales ...
The difference will be between single wheel an dual wheel drive an the number of axles on both the truck an
trailer, also the size of the tires also play into this formula as well.
Also Length of the vehicle plays into this as well, length is more of a problem with semi's than with campers
unless you are pulling a 5th wheel an a trailer behind which are allowed in many states out west. Then a
total combination length between the vehicles can not exceed 73ft, an for semi's you have to have a doubles
endorsement in your CDL license, some state's require an endorsement for owner pulling such with campers
If they pull you over a scale an weight a camper they will not ask you to unhook an weight your vehicle
an 5th wheel or TT apart. Again they look at what type of axles you have, add total axles for a gross weight.
But also your truck axles weight could be legal but your trailer could be overweight do to the size of axles
you have on your trailer an the amount of weight that is on them, thus if your under gross weight but still
overweight on your axles your overweight ....
Also in some states but not all you have to buy license plates for the total weight you are going to be pulling,
the more total weight the more you pay ....
Are you totally confused now LOL, again unless you are driving very badly an your vehicle looks to be a safety
hazard to others on the highway, speeding or driving dangerously or holding up traffic more than likely you
will never be pulled over. Even then they may not weight your rig just give you a ticket for what you were
doing...
Believe me if you want a scale master to get mad an hear him shouting bad words just pull across his scale when
it is open, he or she will let you know that you are not wanted nor welcome pulling across such when the scale
is open ...
Many scales have signs stating campers should bypass or are exempt, also they have no problem if you weight your
rig if they are close, they do have reader boards outside the scale house that will tell you your axle weight
when pulling across
Safe travels an Happy New Year
