Dodge def fill 2013-present is behind fuel door next to diesel filler just like Ford... however, my 2012 uses no def so I'll probably be keeping it til the wheels fall off! Jay Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't fuel mileage and performance go up with the newer, cleaner running Rams? If so, I would gladly tilt a jug a couple times a year.

Jay Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't fuel mileage and performance go up with the newer, cleaner running Rams? If so, I would gladly tilt a jug a couple times a year. You are correct. According to FCA the horsepower was increased by 20 hp, torque by 50 lb. ft., and the fuel economy was improved with the 2013 models; however, that is also when they reduced standard differential gear ratios in CTD equipped RAMs from 3.73:1 to 3.42:1. My son has a 2014 RAM CTD Laramie, mega cab, 4x4 and I have a 2012 RAM CTD Laramie Longhorn, CC, 4x4, so the trucks are pretty similar. They have the same basic modifications, and we pull similar sized 5th wheels. Our performance and fuel economy are virtually identical. So yes, I would agree that if I could get better performance and economy, it would be a good trade off. But, I'm very satisfied with the performance and economy I'm getting now and so far, I haven't really seen any of my friends doing better with def equipped trucks, so in my humble opinion, why bother? Besides, the sticker shock on these new trucks is ridiculous!

When I picked up my new 2019 Ford F-350 Dually 6.7L PowerStroke diesel, I was met by the fleet manager who sold me the truck, and by the service manager. Upon meeting the service manager, I asked him what the most important things to know about caring for my new truck. I was rather shocked by his response. He said first, just be sure to “only put diesel fuel” in the fuel tank. Naturally, I thought “well, duh”! But he went on to explain how common it is for owners to accidentally fill up their diesel-powered trucks with gasoline, or even to add DEF to the fuel tank. He also stressed that if it ever happens to me, that I do not even TOUCH the start button, and to immediately call for a tow.
Sorry this happened to you, midlotexan, and I’m glad to hear your insurance coverage came through for you.

Thank you, it has a dumb mistake. One I won't do again. The truck has been flawless with the new system and I got an extra 25k mile warranty on the fuel system. Not bad I guess for the cost of my deductible. Hope you are enjoying your new rig! Safe travels Kirt

I'm glad it all worked out good for you and the truck is running good. Every time I hear a story like this I like my 2009 no-def truck that much better. One less thing I have to worry about...
